Hi i've been on scd for a bit over 5 months and my numbers are thank god looking great, the Dr. actually mentioned that the diet it working remarkably well!!! I'm not on any meds and have just this year been diagnosed with CD. Anyway, I was actually planning on asking my Dr. if it was safe to get pregnant (this isn't my first) and before I had the chance to even ask him I found out I was!!! Anyway, he said I should be fine because after he palpated my stomach and looked at my blood work he was very pleased and everything was normal! Anyway, I'm very apprehensive, I've had great pregnancies in the past but then again, I wasn't diagnosed with CD at the time. What I want to know is I'm craving carbs like bread and pizza and the almond flour pizza just doesn't do it for me...anyone have any ideas? I'm going crazy and I refuse to cheat but I need a good piece of bread. Anyone with good suggestions? Thanx Becky The New Busy is not the old busy. Search, chat and e-mail from your inbox. Guest guest
Congratulations! Both baby and good bloodwork! Carbs are worse to me than sugar ever was as far as craving. I do not know a good fake out though, I have seen a couple of biscuit recipes but haven't tried them. Marilyn will have some good ideas I think. Debbie cd houston what about SCD bread? I haven't given in and I don't plan on it but I'm defnitely struggling with this....I was doing so great on the diet and I had such a good attitude about it most of the time but now I feel like I'm counting down the months.... Thanx for the receipe tips I'll definitely try them! Guest guest
Good for you for not giving in! There's nothing so strong as a mother's instinct to protect her child! So every pregnancy is different, and yes, after the first trimester, my cravings mercifully eased a lot, but I was HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. I don't remember most of what I ate, but the things I remember with lingering fondness were making a huge pot of SCD legal minestrone with tons of meat, vegetables, and smothering it with mountains of grated legal cheese and SCD cheesecake (back when I could tolerate dairy). I too would encourage you to prepare and freeze or dry a large quantity of a good variety of food before your baby arrives - not only will you not have time/energy/desire/consciousness to cook, but I found myself to be utterly ravenous with the nursing - I swear, I ate as if I were perpetually hollow during my 2nd and 3rd trimesters and for at least a year after my daughter was born, and still lost some weight. We are doing what is called " extended nursing " - letting her wean herself, as with all my digestive problems and the genetic component of IBDs, that she needs all the protection she can get! You could also take up any help offered from family or friends(or actively encourage them to offer) - email them (or get your partner to do so) a recipe or two and ask them to bring a dish with them when they visit you to meet the baby. As you know, you really will need some help for at least the first couple of months. Maybe instead of a baby shower, you could have a baking party, where you provide all the ingredients, and your friends come over and bake mounds of goodies for you (say, at about 1 month before baby is due). Then try to stop them from eating them all before they go! (I am munching my way through entirely TOO many Sesame Truffles as I type this - I made them in 4 different flavours yesterday. I kick my husband and daughter out of the house on Saturdays so I can cook for a good few hours and be set for the week.) It really can be a lot of work keeping to SCD, but staying healthy for yourself and your children is entirely worth it. Being ill and having to be responsible for them is utterly miserable and very stressful. Even falling off the SCD wagon for a bit (ahem, chocolate and potatoes - they were delicious and very filling, but made me very tired - NOT what I needed) really strengthens your resolve to continue. Also, have you considered that being able to get pregnant might be a sign that you have experienced a significant amount of healing, enough to support a baby healthfully? This must be the most encouraging aspect of all. Licia colitis/scd feb 2006 no meds since july 2006 > > Licia, your words of encouragment were great!!!
