Guest guest
June, We also did Feingold for about a year before starting GFCF, and my son is also 8 years old. We've only been GFCF for about 10 days so I'm not sure if this will help you or not. We pretty much try to stick with both Feingold and GFCF. The one exception is an antibiotic capsule that my son is currently taking, which violates both FG and GFCF. We did see an increase in hyperactivity/impulsivity the first week. This past week he has been very good. (I'm not saying it's the diet since he's also had a lot of extra attention like getting special stuff baked for him, etc. which has made him happy.) Has your son been eating a LOT of dyes, etc. because if so, then his behavior could certainly be because of that. Someone else might know better about the detoxing. I wouldn't think it would last 4 weeks, but maybe it could if he was eating a lot of wheat/dairy before GFCF. At your son's age, he might be upset/rebellious against the diet (I'm just guessing, since my son is a little bit upset about it.) Feel free to e-mail me if you want to discuss particular brands. We have been mostly avoiding packaged stuff, due to lack of suitable foods to choose from. >>Is this a case of his system detoxing, and we are seeing things get worse before they get better, or is the reintroduction of some non-Feingold items the culprit? I guess I am asking, is anyone doing gfcf AND Feingold who would like to share food lists? I am seriously thinking about trying both at the same time. I would think it would just be a matter of cross-checking brands. >>
