Guest guest
I read old posts from time to time on this board, and I've just read 3 in a row, plus I know of others that were diagnosed with UC after going on antibiotics for various things such as strep throat, ear infection, ect. Seems to be a very common occurance which sets off the UC in people.Makes me not want to give up on this diet yet There's got to be a bacterial connection someplace.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a day The New Busy is not the old busy. Guest guest
I can't trace my diagnosis to antibiotics, but one of the worst flares of my life was after taking a large spectrum antibiotic after some gum surgery (landed me in the hospital for over a week). It was actually my GI who told me the antibiotics caused the flare (HOW IRONIC considering these are the same guys that give you the funny look when you tell them you are on SCD). Anyway, I am so angry now when I think of it... I probably would have been just fine without it at all- it seems like doctors give them out like candy just to cover their butts " in case " something were to happen. But they are nothing but trouble! -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 30 mg prednisone > > > I read old posts from time to time on this board, and I've just read 3 in a row, plus I know of others that were diagnosed with UC after going on antibiotics for various things such as strep throat, ear infection, ect. Guest guest
Wow, does this ever sound familiar. I was on a fairly high dose of tetracycline for just over two years to treat serious, scarring acne. A little while after stopping the antibiotics, I went from being able to eat anything, anytime, to a host of digestive ailments -- all of which people on this group will recognize all too well! And yes, I started craving sugar and starchy things of all kinds. Frightening to think now that all those times when I was so nauseated I could barely eat, my food choices (and cravings) may have just been worsening and prolonging the problem. Karina 9 months SCD > > > You just reminded me that I was craving sugars all the time too. Weird... I was real into health food, then decided that reeses peanut butter cups were too good to pass up. So I was eating 4 or 5 packs a day at the time. I thought since I was so healthy for so long I had the " right " to eat like a pig for a little bit and feel good doing it. I regret it now to say the least! > > - > UC - 1+ years > SCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet. > Asacol - 5 pills a day > > >
