Guest guest
Thanks everyone. The pediatrician told me they wouldn't be able to draw enough blood unless they did the heel stick. Maybe I'll see if they can send me to a lab so they can draw it from his arm. I know his feet are sensitive when they remove the casts so I hate to think about him going through the blood draw
Guest guest
oh good lord, it's just a PKU. It's a cardboard card with 4 circular spots on it. Prick the heel (it bleeds well) and you dab the heel onto those spots till they're completely full (can even go outside of the circle). Yes, they do need quite a bit of blood to fill up all 4 circles because it's on cardboard but in all seriousness... it could be done another way. Heel prick bleeds well and goes the fastest. That's the only limitation. Don't tell me they can't get blood from a vein for this if needed. ANYONE can do this. There are nurses at the ortho office perhaps? They can do it, you can do it. duh... sorry but I can't imagine this would be difficult. They GIVE me this card when I go home from the hospital every time I have a child. If it were that particular, they would not be letting some mom haul it home to be brought back to a future ped appointment. Don't let them push you on this one, you can find a way to do it when they change the cast. Kori At 07:45 PM 1/17/2006, you wrote: >Thanks everyone. Guest guest
Aleksander had blood drawn at one of his recent well-baby visits. They took quite a bit from his finger. I was surprised that they chose to do that, but they said it was the least painful. Perhaps for the stick, but when they held his hand and squeezed his finger for several minutes, I started to doubt it. Regardless, I do think it is possible to get quite a bit of blood from the finger too. > >Thanks everyone.
