Tabitha,

I dip the ends of the straps in to a varnish of some sort and let it dry hard to

put them through the buckles easier, but if your baby is young enough to want to

chew on the flappy straps that might not be the way to go (although

chewing/sucking will harden them just as well pretty soon!).

Adjusting the shoes - can you tell what angle they're at, like 60 degrees or 70

degrees? I've noticed many times Dr. P will have a Markell at 70 but a

at 60 on the same child.

If you put long socks on him the rubber part on the back shouldn't rub his legs.

But I know what you mean, these things seem huge at first. Thankfully babies

grow so fast!

I also worried the leather would break but we're in our 3rd pair and it hasn't

happened yet (knock on wood). I do find I sort of pull the strap with one hand

and ease the metal buckel up with the other at times - especially as they get

more worn out. If you do break a strap though, I think it could be repaired

locally at a shoe shop or saddle shop...any kind of leather shop I suppose.

You might need to punch more holes too, especially while they are new and too

big, and then again maybe later as the leather stretches out. My main complaint

with the shoes is the leather straps do stretch out quite a bit and by

the end of their useful life often I haven't been able to get the proper fit -

right between holes but not enough room to punch a new hole or the leather too

worn to hold up to another hole.

Anyway, don't know if any of that helps but if you continue having problems

maybe call directly about them for advice.

Good luck,

s.

P/M question

Hello, everyone. It's been a very busy week here. To remind, we ordered the

P/M's on received them last Monday. Karter would not wear them at all. I

thought at first that the bar was to long, but finally yesterday I pulled out

the Markells that he had and the shoes seemed to be out further on the P/M's. I

took and moved them one notch by unscrewing the screw on the bottom. His

Markells were set up by Dr. Ponseti himself, so I was just wondering if this is

ok and to get anyone's opinion on the subject.

Also, the plastic that comes up the back of the leg seems to bother him. Is

there anything we can do about this? With the shoes being big they go up quite

a ways on the leg.

The P/M's they sent are a size 3 and kind of large. Could this be causeing

the problem. His Markells were only a size 1. I am happy they made them large

enough for some extra growth, for we do not know yet if the insurance will cover

them.

I am guessing it is the rotation of the shoes, because as of know he has had

them on for 14 hours and is still sleeping. Before I moved them Karter would

not wear them for longer than 30 min.

The straps on these shoes are nice, but I am very worried that I will pull

them to hard and brake them. I remember reading about putting something on the

straps to make them go thru the buckle easier, could someone remind me what that

was.

Thank you in advance

Tabitha

As far as the straps breaking, I believe did change the " gauge "

of leather he was using on the straps after our broke. He had me

send him pics of the break and pics of what it was replaced with. We

had a local shoe shop do the repair and in only took a few hours.

The shop was certified for reapir of Birkenstock sandals, so the guy

had all the proper supplies at hand. He also happended to know about

the FAB/DBB style brace and had repaired some Markell's before!

I understand that uses the suede for flexibility ... but I think

sometimes that it would be better all around if the straps themselves

were made out of tanned leather ...

Tabitha,

It might be worth a call to if you think the shoes are

really too big. It has happened before that shipments have gotten

mixed up and people have gotten the wrong shoes. Although if he seems

comfortable in them now, I guess I probably wouldn't mess with it!
