Sure, but here's why I think it's a good idea to get rid of them during the DS: 1. The presence of the appendix could possibly cause the misdiagnosis of a post-operative blockage. This is potentially LETHAL. 2. Most MO folks either have badly damaged gallbladders, (Dr. Anthone says mine looked like " a bag of marbles " ), or are at risk for such damage from fast weight loss. Sure, you can take meds for the latter, but why not just avoid the problem in the first place? 3. You get three, (count 'em, THREE!), surgeries for the price -- in terms of hospital stay and recovery time -- of one. Where else can you get a bargain like that?
