Guest guest
Luna, Nothing in life is a guarantee, there are always risks, particularly with surgery. Some people don't even wake up from anaesthesia. I recommend praying about your situation, and if surgery's meant to happen for you then God will provide. Good luck with your decision. Guest guest
I haven't been as active lately on the board due to moving, etc., but I'll offer my two cents. Although I have no arguments with the value of improved functionality, I'm pretty squarely in the " looks " crowd. I've been through more than the average case, having had braces as a teenager, then again with lower advancement and genioplasty in my late 20's. Then just three months ago I had another genioplasty because the first surgery made such a small change in my profile that I was very disappointed and wanted a " significant " change. I have no idea how much advancement you are looking at having, but the general impression I get from looking at numerous " before/after " photos is that most people really don't look much different, but probably have a significant improvement, if not perfection, in their occlusion, which really is what orthodontics/orthognathic surgery seeks to accomplish. My first surgery certainly achieved a near perfect bite, but the change to my face was " piddly " . My recent genioplasty on the other hand, made a very significant change in my profile..... what I would have expected the first time. I wouldn't say that this surgery is a waste by any means, but in all honesty, you may not see a very significant change in your appearance. You can view my photos in the " bad post " folder, which shows my profile after all the braces and surgery, then shows a post op shot after my second genioplasty. > > I posted about a week ago and didn't get any responses, so I guess my > question was unanswerable. Guest guest
Hi Luna, I'm nervous about my face too, because it looks fine now. But isn't the surgery going to correct alignment of your teeth and jaws? I feel that if the surgery corrects my bite, it will be a happy day (this is by far the most important reason for me). It's my understanding that my profile should look very natural with the jaw in it's proper position. I don't know if this helps, but if you look at pictures of celebrities, lots of them have very prominent chins. Are you having your lower moved forward? Sherri What am I gonna look like? > > > I posted about a week ago and didn't get any responses, so I guess my > question was unanswerable.
