i have hypothyrdoidism as well. but that did not hold up my surgery at all.

it really shouldn't matter, i don't understand why he wants you to wait. if

your pcp didn't already tell you, definitely find out his reasoning for the

wait. i know when your thyroid is slow it can make you gain weight, but the i

have read and been told before that the hypothyroidism is not significant with

regard to obesity.

I have a huge problem and I need advice.........my surgery is going

to be the 23rd of this month. I have already seen my surgeon and

dietician for the last time. I have had my physical...and everything

is a go. Well.....I get a call from my pcp and they tell me that I am

hypothyroid, which I knew because I was diagnosed before as that.

When I first started going to this doc he felt no need to test me for

it because the last test by the previous doc was fine.....needless to

say......over a year later and I need to take meds for it....no

biggie...........UNTIL my pcp tells me I can't have my surgery for 2-

3 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have waited and waited and fought with

my insurance company to finally get the date I have now and for

what???? I am a nurse and I know what the risks are and yada yada....

I have pre-op testing next Friday (not at my pcp office)and if they

tell me it is ok to have the surgery I am going to do it. Is that

wrong??? My thoughts are to start taking the meds he prescribed to me

and go have my tests done next Friday and see what the hospital says.

I know once I do this I will probably have to get a new pcp, but I

really don't mind that. Please please give me some advice.......

What is his reasoning for postponing the surgery for 2-3 months?
