How long did you wear rubber bands?

I had lower jaw surgery on 3/9/05.

I was tightly banded for 12 days.

Since then I've worn 2 removable

rubberbands on each side of my

mouth in the shape of a triangle

that I can remove when I eat and

to brush my teeth.

On Wed. I will be 6 weeks post op.

For those with similar treatment

how many weeks after having surgery

did you have to wear rubber bands?

I had thought previously after 8 weeks

I would be eating regular food. But I

don't see myself eating pretzels or any

thing like it anytime soon.

Hi Cheri,

I had surgery on 3/9 too.... upper/lower/genio. I didn't get bands

put on until one week post op. I was only splinted the first week.

When I did get the bands, they were two super heavy bands... one on

each side of my mouth stretched into a square. For the first two

weeks after getting them, i wore them all the time. At my 3 week post

op check up, I was permitted to wear them only at night, and not

during the day. I just had my splint removed today. My OS said I

could continue to wear the bands at night to continue to help guide

and reinforce my new bite. I meet with ortho next monday. My OS has

no instructions for my ortho how I should wear the bands, so come

next monday, it will be up to ortho what bands I am wearing -how and

where- after that. Today, my OS told me I can eat what I please, so

at this point, it is just a matter of what I am able to manage each

day... We're both only at 6 weeks... I have no idea what I'll be able

to eat in two weeks from now. Let me know how it goes for you! What

are you able to eat at this point?? My biggest limitation seems to be

how wide my mouth opens more than anything else... although it would

also help if my teeth matched up a little better than they do at this
