Guest guest
My son's DAN doctor put him on several supplements including a circulation enhancer called Vinpocetine. The only way I can get to take this is by opening the capsule and mixing it in something. The problem is that it is very gritty and won't eat anything I put it in. I'm getting ready to make the banana pancakes out of " Special Diets for Special Kids " and I was wondering if I could just cook it in a pancake. I called the doctor's office and the nurse said she did not recommend cooking any of the supplements, but she didn't sound real sure. I tried (all day) to call the manufacturer, but kept getting a busy signal. Does anyone out there add their supplements to batter before they cook it? Guest guest
I have also heard that most supplements aren't suppose to be cooked because intense heat can change the structure but I'm really not sure. I do add calcium powder to most things I bake and that is suppose to be okay. I have at times (when my daughter gets stubborn about her supplements) melted chocolate chips and mixed in supplements into candy molds and made vitamin candies. this worked really well until she came around the corner and found me out. She wouldn't touch them after that. I have also used chocolate syrup, applesauce, and peanut butter. However, she always figures it out and then refuses these items. We have found that we have had to take a hard line stance with the supplements. We tell her that if she won't take them by herself then daddy will hold her down and mommy will force them down her throat. It only took one time to do this and now she takes them. Not always happily but she takes them. Now all we have to say is, is it going to be the easy way or the hard way and we don't have a problem. Hope this was somewhat helpful.
