Making the decision to go ahead

Thanks to all of you for posting and sharing your stories. Its great

to be able take all this in while trying to make my decision. I have

an overbite that I was just informed would need jaw surgery to

correct and braces. I am curious about some of you, what made you

make the decision to go ahead with this? Right now its terribly

overwhelming and scary, and I'm thinking now its not all that bad to

have the gap between my two front teeth. I have no pain, I can close

my lips, and most people don't even know I have a gap. I was told

that in order for the gap to be fixed the jaw and teeth would need

to align properly which makes perfect sense, but the surgery all

alone is really stressing me out. I'd very much appreciate hearing

some stories if you'd care to share.

Hi,

I recently posted a bit about my situation, I too have a slight overbite.

Right now I wish I could go back in time and do NOTHING, but it's too late.

Braces made my teeth straight and now I need surgery to make my jaw match,

according to 3 orthos and a surgeon there's no way to reverse now (I pleaded

with them to use my original models as a guide to put them back, but

apparently it can't be done). Be sure you get lots of opinions, be careful

of drs. who just want $ (this is difficult to discern) listen to your heart

and pray. BUT, I am having surgery on April 6 and if I'm better than where

I started I will be glad I did this. My understanding is that if your

teeth/jaws are off, you wear your teeth down, prone to gum recession, tmj

and other dental problems. I hope that I have less of this afterwards.

Very skeptical at this point! If only we had crystal balls to predict the

future.
