Pat,

I think it depends on the individual. His a habit to drink while I was eating.

Since my surgery was 5 years ago things have changed.

Gang,

Maybe I am the one that baffles the doctors. I started drinking diet soda

about 2 months post op. Now I to have a soda with every meal or the food will

not digest. There are also times I need to have a spoonful of sugar to help

digest my meal.

Hello Patty,

I drink diet coke too. I just wait for about 30 minutes and then I will

have a small amount. If something gets stuck I find that it helps it to go

down. I think the acid breaks down the food since we don't have stomach acid

to do that for us.

I'm totally confused, I thought we weren't allowed to drink anything

carbonated after our surgery because it would expand the stomach.

Oh and you guys, I'm sooooo frustrated with my insurance company. I'm

supposed to have the surgery next Monday but they still haven't

responded to my doctor's requests. I've tried calling several times but

we have TriCare (my husband is a marine) so I only get an answering

service. I've been working on this since last July! Does is always

take this long? Is anyone else as anxious as I am? I feel like I'm

waking up everyday with the excitement that you'd feel Christmas

morning.instead of presents, I wait all day to hear from my doctors.

They finally called me yesterday, I had butterflies in my stomach when I

heard Gloria's voice on the other end of the line! Unfortunately, she

was only calling to tell me that she has repeatedly tried to contact my

insurance company and still hasn't got a response. She just wanted me

to know that she was doing all that she could and that they haven't

forgot about me, which was really sweet of her, but very disappointing

for me.

Anxiously Awaiting,

RE: Re Coke

Absolutely you shouldn't have any type of carbonated beverages after

surgery, and even before! Here's three simple tests that you can try in

order to form your own opinion!

1) pour some of your favorite carbonated beverage over a piece of raw

meat.

2) pour some of your favorite carbonated beverage over your car battery.

3) pour some of your favorite carbonated beverage into a Ziploc baggie

and close it tightly. Then let it sit.

I'm not going to tell you the results of any of these tests...you need

to find them out for yourself. Just try it and watch! Good luck!

not drinking while eating is/was my biggest adjustment. I learned how to

de-carbonate Fresca (which along with decaf coffee and tea is all I

drink...can't stand plain water) early on. I just can't seem to get through

a meal without drinking something, and I usually feel uncomfortable when I

do it. It is a daily struggle. I guess as the pouch stretches it will get

easier.
