Guest guest
I am in Savannah, Georgia. I am considering a second opinion now. I have been told of a good Christian doctor in Atlanta - Dr. DeVito. I also have friends in Columbia, SC looking around for me. I really like my doctor and from everything I have read, we have done the " proper steps " and her heel is just staying " pulled up " . I have had no doubts thus far, but before " opening her foot up " I would like to know if there are other options. I am not above flying out to Dr. Ponseti if nothing else. I have about 2 weeks before we are to " schedule " surgery (joint capsulotomy) . . . I have read, though, that problems from this surgery occur after adolescence. . .that is why I began to consider a second opinion . . . I am unsure how the online chats work, am I emailing you personally or the chat board? I would like to find out more information about the steps you have taken. I talked to another local family today who go to an out of town doctor who had to do surgery (their child is now 3), too. . . I am just very confused and want what is best for my child! Thanks so much! Guest guest
I want to piggy back on what everyone else has told you so far. Do NOT let this doctor do any surgeries on your little one! Unfortunately for my son, we didn't check out this website and so he had surgery on his right foot last Oct. It wasn't until afterward that I found this website and found out how wrong it was. We are now seeing Dr. Ponseti who corrected Lucas' (they still weren't corrected properly- even after surgery). He said Lucas' right foot will always be stiff now because of the scar tissue that's already built up, but his left will be perfect. I can't go back and undo the surgery he had, but I can help other's from letting their children go through what Lucas has. Most doctors who say this is needed just don't know any better- they actually feel this is the last hope for fixing the feet, so they can be very convincing. Just don't listen to them!! Guest guest
Hi, Yes, on the message board's webpage or in your in box, if you hit " reply " , your message goes to the group. Very helpful that way so that others can join in and offer their 2 cents. If you want to email someone directly you can pull up their response and hit " send email " if you are reading on the website, or just copy and paste their email address into a new message if you are reading from your in box. It definitely sounds like you need a second opinion. There are 3 doctors on Ponseti's list of " qualified " physicians in GA. T. Busch, M.D. 5455 Meridian Mark Road #440 Atlanta, GA 30342-4723 Tel: mikebusch@... sy, M.D. 5455 Meridian Mark Road #440 Atlanta, GA 30342-4723 Tel: rtmorrissy@... Tim Schrader, M.D. 5455 Meridian Mark Road #440 Atlanta, GA 30342-4723 tschrad@... I can't give you first hand information on them, but I'm sure someone here will know and offer up their experiences. If you look in the database section of the group's website there is a table of parents and the physicians they recommend. There is a parent listed there who has listed Dr. sy, so there's a contact to get more info about him. Hope this helps, Mom to Jenna (4/7/01) & Sammy (9/25/04, RCF, Dobbs' brace, 14hrs/day) > > I am in Savannah, Georgia. I am considering a second opinion now. Guest guest
Hi again! We all know how easy it is to get confused when you're trying to figure out the ins and outs of clubfoot treatment. Rest assured, if you can get your daughter in the hands of an experienced doctor, there will be no need for the reconstructive surgery. Here is the link to Dr. Ponseti's website where there is a listing of doctors who have submitted paperwork to him to show that they had (at the time) started to follow his method and were having good results: http://www.uihealthcare.com/topics/medicaldepartments/orthopaedics/cl ubfeet/index.html There are 3 doctors in Atlanta (not the Dr. DeVito that you'd mentioned), and quite a few in SC and FL as well. You didn't mention how old your daughter is. I would say that the most experienced doctor in your area would be Dr. Frick in Charlotte, and he also has a son who was born with clubfoot. If you have the means and the desire to go see Dr. Ponseti, go for it! You'll never regret the trip!!!!!! It's an amazing experience! You can always go to Dr. Ponseti for the initial exam and treatment and then do follow up appointments with one of the doctors closer to you. As far as this message board, if you reply to the post, it will go to the whole group. You can also send an email to an individual as well. It just depends on how you're receiving your messages (individual emails, daily digests, or no email) what your options are. If you're logging into the website to read the posts, you can open the message and click on the sender's name and then it will pull up a window for you to reply to them personally. We're here to answer your questions and help you find the best treatment for your daughter! Regards, & (3-16-00, left cf) > > I am in Savannah, Georgia. I am considering a second opinion now.
