Guest guest
I am surprised to hear some of you find the 's hard to put on. But then I never used much nor mastered the Markells. I found THOSE to be the pita. One time in the first week of our use I did accidently leave the rubber folded which left a red mark on the side of his foot, but never since until a few nights ago (2 years later) dh did but I saw it right away and we fixed it. The tongue is too big in my opinion. I trim it down to size so it's not so bulky to tuck in. I open the shoe all the way, tuck in the heel then apply the center strap first, toe strap 2nd, ankle strap 3rd. Hardening the last 3/4 inch or so of each strap also simplifies the process as then I can just aim it in to the buckle with out fumbling with a floppy strap. and I keep an ink dot on the correct holes for easy reference. Anyway, good luck. Not arguing jsut hoping some of my little technique might help ease it for you. (nope, no new baby yet.) s. Re: Re: Pricing of s -- We never had the Markells, as Dr Ponseti sent us home with one of the swedish made braces. THAT brace was the easiest in the world to put on!!! All 3 velcro straps took less than 2 seconds to put on 's little feet, even when squirming!! lol We got the s in January and they aren't easy to put on, per se. The straps are long and get tangled up in his little foot, and like Kori said, they're a PITA to get flat so there's no chance of sores, etc, but I LOVE them!! adjusted to them very quickly, and although the little bugger still isn't sleeping for me all night through, he's a very happy camper and doesn't complain about the shoes at all! I was also shocked to actually receive a check from Blue Cross for reimbursement without having to call and fight them!! It was even more than I anticipated, which was a nice surprise! They even reimbursed 80% for the impression kit!!! yippeee We paid $264 for the shoes, $86 for the bar, $22 for the impression kit, and $10 for shipping. Jean did say that after the first of the year shipping cost would be increasing, but didn't tell me how much. In addition to those costs, we paid $13.85 to overnight the kit back to them. Well worth it, in my opinion. We have read soooo many stories of people having troubles with the Markells and just didn't even want to take the chance. Figured since we can afford to do it at this time, we should. May not be able to later, but at least while he's such a young infant we won't have to worry so much about pain, sores, and proper fit!! Guest guest
I initially found them a little harder than the Markells as well, which we only had for a few weeks before the s came. They are attached to the bar which makes it slightly frustrating especially if baby is wiggling. I uploaded a suggestions page sent to me from one of the UK members and it is very helpful. But the thing I love best about them is that they are light light light and the bar does not jut out on either end. Hayden moves his feet freely and just in the two weeks he's been in the s has figured out how to move his legs independently while in them, he now chases after a toy when it gets away from him (even though he gets stuck!) and uses the brace to lift his butt out of the Bumbo seat! He is very happy in them and I inspect his feet every day for marks, etc. Even when I have not had the straps tight enough, he has not gotten marks or blisters - they are so soft and supple. Can't say enough good about 'em! Sadly, we got kind of gouged for price by our orthotist for them, but once I see if my extended health will cover them, we may just order them direct next time. Guest guest
I haven't been able to follow this thread so forgive me but $430 for Markell shoes and bar??????? I thought $150 was a lot! That is crazy! _____ From: nosurgery4clubfoot [mailto:nosurgery4clubfoot ] On Behalf Of lotsolove4my2babes Sent: Thursday, February 16, 2006 5:49 PM To: nosurgery4clubfoot Subject: Re: Pricing of s I knew ours were marked up, but geez. Our first two sets of Markells & brace were $575 a piece, and we had to pay $200 for equipment deductible PLUS 20% for the first and 20% the second time, so around $430 for shoes he wore less than 10 wks. Ouch! Haven't got the bill for this set from our new dr yet(he doesn't go thru an orthotist), but we are dreading it on top of all the other medicals this past few months. > > > > , > > We pay the 20% too... Guest guest
Hello, You could always just order them from Happyland Shoes here in Calgary. The Markells we purchase there are only $99 CDN ($86 USD approx). Even with shipping, it would be much less expensive.
