dent on sideburns from helmet?

My daughter has been in her STARband for 3 weeks now, and she is starting to get

dents on her sideburns from the helmet.

I asked another mom and it seems the indents might be permanent? Our orthotist

says it's temporary and should go away after she's out of the helmet. She's

also shaved a little bit off the sideburn areas so it's not so tight. But I'm

worried about whether the dents will be there forever??

Has anyone ever seen this on your baby and whether it went away after the helmet

is off???

I almost feel like abandoning the helmet in favor of preventing these dents!!

We had the same thing happen to Blake, at Hanger they put a little mole skin on our sons sideburn area on his helmet, it took some of the roughness away, more gentle, and is skin is better. Maybe they could do that? Hope that helps!

I noticed this with my sons Hanger helmet, but they only showed up when pressure

had been applied to the sides. For example if he had been sleeping and was

laying on one side or both. When I took the helmet off each night for an hour,

they would fade before it went back on.

I was very concerned that the helmet would cause his jaw to narrow or change the

shape of his face. But after meeting with the ortho and discussing it with her,

we determined that when no pressure was applied it was fine and was not tight

enough to cause any permanent changes to his face/jaw.

If your daughter gets dents when no pressure is applied, just from say sitting

with it on, I would have them adjust it even more(shave the sides down a little

more than they already have).

When my son wore his helmet, no pressure applied, and I would take it off, he

would have only a few very light pink spots on different locations on his head.

These all faded if the helmet was off for an hour or more.
