Guest guest
Hi Helene, I have twin survivors of a very premature triplet pregnancy, both aged 5. One of my sons has autism, has not. When I had that decesion to face, a lot of supportive people here told me there was no hurry, to send them when I was ready, etc.. To be honest though, tough as it is to make the decision, I feel early intervention is very important in our children's development. I feel very strongly that our children need maximum help and intervention from as young an age as possible. That the younger you start, and the more input you can give, whatever approach you chose to take can only be a good thing for your child. Don't look at it as you seperating from him, you have so much other time with him. If you feel the preschool is appropriate, and will be good for him, then go for it. Our children with autistic tendencies need so much attention that you might find it very rewarding to be able to give some solo time to his NT twin. I often feel pulled so many ways with my children. I completely understand how difficult this time is for you - I saw it as the start of the rest of their lives and chosing different routes is not what I wished for them. It is so not fair to have to make decisions like that when our children are so young, but looking at it another way, it is a blessing to discover whatever difficulties he has so young so that you can begin to help him.
