Guest guest
Yesterday we had to go in for an adjustment and our ortho ended up taking measurements. Aman is 6mo 3wks old and has been in the helmet for 8 weeks. Aman's numbers turned out to be much better than I expected (and our ortho too): so we went down from 17 to 6 mm asymmetry. So I say unexpected because visually he still needs a quite a bit to fill in, especially on the top part of the flatter side. The ortho meant that although numbers are good means to keep track of the progress, the measurements are taken only at one particular point. Here is the thing that worries me. Although the flat side is rounding out, his head still has this specific parallelogram shape, especially when I look at him in the mirror. I guess it would get round all around once we are done, but I just wanted some re-assurance form other mommies that it would be so. Thanks.Zhyldyz, mama to Aman, ~7 mo, 8 weeks in Danmar helmet
Guest guest
Hi, I'm glad to hear his head is improving. He may not have a round head when you're done - it just depends on the baby. Often you can get a lot of correction without getting a perfect head when you're done. Any growth that is there cannot be reduced - instead you try to redirect growth to flat areas so the overall proportion is better. However any prominent areas should be staying the same, and not getting worse. So if he had a very strong parallelogram shape, it may be that it is still slightly that shape when you graduate, but overall much better than when you started. I hope that makes sense. Also facial asymmetry is generally much more obvious in the mirror. Not sure if that is what you are seeing. Physical therapy is often as important as banding to resolve facial asymmetry is torticollis is present, since the muscles contribute a lot to the face. -christine sydney, 3 yrs, starband grad -- In Plagiocephaly , ZK <mezhyldyz@...> wrote: > > Yesterday we had to go in for an adjustment and our ortho ended up taking measurements. Guest guest
Good news. Glad things are going well for you guys! Our son just finshed his helmet recently. We got down to 1mm off and a cephalic ratio of 82.7%. His head looks So much better, we were 18mm off. It is not perfect, but pretty good and we are very happy. Someone who does not know anything about plagio would have no idea. Good luck!!! Robin SW Ohio > > > > Yesterday we had to go in for an adjustment and our ortho ended up taking measurements.
