She had her appt yesterday. Her heals are still not healed. One is close, but

the other still looks kinda nasty. They put another cast on her, she goes

aback in 2 weeks. If she is healed them, they will order the s.

Oh, the poor little thing. It's really terrible that she had to go through all

that. The good news is that the healing process is well underway. How is she

handling it?

why didn't they do impressions at the appointment? They take a week

or so to come and she'll need more casts waiting for them.

The sore should be healed by now like the other one, did they do

anything special for it? Test for infection?

Also, 2w is too long with a sore like that. They should check it in

no less than 3 days, and then recast again if necessary. Have mama

and daddy go back to have it checked next Monday. Don't let them

tell them no, it's not something you want to mess with and could

become bad under the cast and you'd never know. Frequent checks with

that kind of sore is essential.

It'll also allow them to make the impressions and get the shoes on

order. If they don't have impression kits at the ortho shop call

/Jeanne today and have them overnight you a kit so it's there on Monday.

Did they soften the cast in the heel over that sore? while it's

hardening, just push against the plaster and break it a bit. Also, a

layer of duoderm on the sore, and lambs wool over it (under the

plaster) is a good healing option.

Did we ever get pictures of her feet? Are they addressing the fact

that her heel was rising? how is dorsiflexion? What abduction are

these casts at? Got any pics of this for us?

He said he didn't want to fit them while she still had the sore. He says it

takes 12 days after fitting. Next visit the plan is to fit her, then recast

until they come in.

He is the one didn't want to do the fitting until her heal is healed.

does this dr. realize how long it takes to get them? First you do

the impression, then send it. Then he makes the shoe. The he sends

it to you. This doesn't happen overnight. Did he say what he plans

to do in the meantime after the sore is healed? Another cast

maybe? What point is there in that if she is fully corrected?

Sorry, just don't see the logic in waiting to do the impressions.

DeeDee,

Are you sure they are planning on getting her the shoes? If they are,

Kori is absolutely right, the folks at Shriner's should be starting that process

now. It will take about 2 weeks for the shoes to be made in Iowa once they

receive the impression kits there. Having sores on her heels is not going to

make a difference as far as getting the impressions made and sent on their way

to . Are they planning on putting her back into the Markells while

they wait for the s to arrive or will she be in holding casts the whole

time?

I know how irritatingly obtuse the orthotists are at Sac Shriner's (we've had

several run-ins in the past few years)... I really encourage you to

double-check what the plan is and talk to Dr Lerman on the phone if need be. In

the end, they have to do what he tells them to do.

In the meantime, it's good to hear Isabella is doing so well through all of

this!

they changed the medication. The one heal looks really good. He said he didn't

not want to fit her for the shoes until this is healed. It is improving, just

taken a long time to do so. He says her feet look perfect. I only have the pics

with my cell phone, so they are not good at all.
