Yes, that would be nice. I have a real close up of both feet, right after

birth, I can send that if you'd like.

DeeDee,

I just took a look at Isabella's feet at the first casting, and even

though it's hard to tell exactly from the photos, her feet look a

lot like Marcus's left foot. It's just hard to tell for sure because

the photo angles are a bit different. It's nice that they are close

in age and treatment stages so that we can kind of compare notes.

My 21 yr old son who has spina bifida is at UCD med center and is very sick.

He had surgery yesterday and will have another on Thursday. We could really

use some prayers.

What kind of surgery? Hope she's doing well!

Marcia

Isabella

She had her surgery yesterday. They were suppose to do it on the 29th, but

called and said they could do it, so we went for it. She was really fussy

after.

I haven't talked to the kids today yet, so not sure how she did in the night.

Oh, o.k., that's what I thought, but wanted to make sure it wasn't anything

more, for her sake :) Guess that means she'll be cast free in a few weeks!

Woohoo!

Tenotomy

I'm sorry to hear that she was uncomfortable. It could have been the

discomfort of having her feet turned out so much. Hopefully some

Tylenol helped to settle her down a bit. The good news is that since

she had the tenotomy a week early, she will be out of the casts a week

sooner.

She got her casts off today, and her new brace ! She is NOT liking it much.

She has cried most of the day since. I will send pictures in a minute to the

other list.

I asked a wound nurse who was her seeing Trevor, and she said they looked

like pressure sores, and one might be infected. She will see the doctor in the

morning. We did try calling our peds doc, but he was not in today.

Hi Dee,

Saw those pics and wow, poor lil Isabella! When Grace got a couple of

sores from outgrowing her last set of casts she was already on a mild

daily anitiotic (for her kidney issues) so her doc didn't perscribe her

one but if she wasn't on that anitibiotic, he probably would have just

to be sure there was no infection.

Those sores look so nasty, I would take her in to see her doc asap and

also ask him about pain meds. Dr. Pirani told us to give Grace a dose

of Tylenol after she developed sores (when I gave him the frantic call

on his cell)- her doc also oked it (she was just 2 mos old but was also

a big baby as Isabella looks to be) and it calmed her right down.

Really hope that she is feelin better soon!

It sure looks infected to me. Maddie had the same problem with the Markells.

Does she have a temp? Is the area around it hot? Maddie's sore deveolped into

a staph infection. You might want to have her see her ortho or pediatrician

tomorrow to treat the infection early. While you wait, cushion it with gauze

and put some bacitracin on it. It looks so sore. Poor baby. On a side note,

maddie moved into the s last week, and she's had no problems, no

pressure sores, not even red marks. Hope she feels better soon. Keep us

posted. You are such a great grandmother to keep on top of the cf. She's very

lucky to have you.

DeeDee,

I'm coming in a little late on this, I know you've already gotten lots

of posts, and I haven't read what everyone has said yet, but I saw the

pictures of Isabella's heels and wanted to get this to you quickly.

These sores are bad, my son Sammy's were just like this so this is

from my experience; first, I doubt that the sore is infected, I'm no

doctor but usually an infection would take a bit of time to show up.

Sammy had one sore that was really pussy looking like that, Dr. Dobbs

told me that that is just the skin trying to heal itself. Although I

would certainly look for signs of fever or redness spreading from

around the wound, skin around it would feel hot. You should

definitely ask the doc about this tomorrow but I am not one to do

antibiotics unless really needed. In our case, his sores were quite

deep, as Isabella's looked to be, especially in the first picture.

Dr. Dobbs chose to let the heels heal for 10 days open - he would have

re-cast if necessary (we were extremely lucky in that Sammy never lost

correction during this time). We put neosporin on the sores and

covered them with bandaids and put on socks at night, this helped

cover and pad just a little since he was sleeping on his back with his

heels resting on the mattress. During the day we tried to keep them

open to the air as much as possible, kept the house extra warm so he

wouldn't freeze his tootsies. When we needed to put something on

during the day we used gauze, taped loosely to allow air to still get

to the wound, and used loose knit booties or big socks.

The next thing, which I'm sure Kori is already helping you with is

figuring out what caused this and how to make sure she will be okay

when she is healed and it is time to try again. You said you thought

it was the shoes slipping, do you think it was user error or do you

think the shoes don't fit her correctly? Let me know if you haven't

already gone through all of this part with Kori and I'll be glad to

help.

I hope this helps a bit and if there's anything I can do, or if you

have any questions I hope I can help.

You are such a wonderful Grandma, DeeDee. I know your son and DIL are so

blessed to have you in their lives. All the best to little Isabella,

Carol and

Re: Re: Isabella

Thank you so much for thre reply. I believe it was caused by not putting them

on properly. My son & dil are at Shriners right now seeing the doctor. I am

waiting sooo patiently for a call. I did print off the info on the website for

my dil, and she read it last night. I will post as soon as I hear what happen

at the clinic.
