I thought I would throw my two cents in it too: I learnt to take

pills (any kind) when I was probably 15 yrs old. I had a very hard

time with anything that stayed in my throat and " floated " . Then one

day I just made myself (because everyone was laughing at the fact

that I would tip my head back and wait until the pill was at the end

of my throat, with the water, and then swallow), and then the road

was easy-I can now take four or five large tablets at once, go

figure!-; anyway, I just " taught " my 4.7 yr old ASD son, how-to, and

I am happy it went the right way (LOL), tho it is not for everyone; I

was tired of the fighting for any kind of " untasty " liquid that he

didn't want to swallow, no matter how and what. So one day I decided

he'd go for the capsules, since all the liquid forms would go

anywhere but in his mouth; I just " sat " on him on the floor, showing

him why and what was going to happen; then I had whatever pill and a

siringe bulb with water or juice in it, that I'd have him taste so he

knew it was just liquid; and I had some GFCF candy in my other hand

as a reward. Now I still had to hold him and " force " him, but in one

week he had learn: I put the capsule in his mouth, hold it closed,

push some liquid in and made him swallow. At first it didn't all go

fine, but then he knew the routine and he'd lay on the floor when

he'd see me coming with the pills. At the end of the fourth day he

didn't want the candy anymore, but he was getting the idea of the

routine. He now (two weeks later or so) takes any pill standing, and

needs no other reward but I verbal praise and a kiss.

I know it is not for everyone and doesn't really apply if your child

gags on it, but I was pretty proud that my son learnt what it took my

three times is age to learn-and I am a NT person!!!-and wanted to

share. For the gagging part, I don't think it is an allergy issue-I

am no expert though, of course-but more of a " mind " problem, like I

had. Maybe the pilld are alittle bigger than the others and he CAN

notice the difference, while we don't. For the SNT, whether liquid or

powder...My son can't do it because of taste and texture

(respectively). He now takes the capsules with P5P.

Sorry this may not be of great help.
