Guest guest
Are you seeing Dr. Albright in Orlando, FL? Asking because we see Dr. Herrera-Soto there too. I've seen a few babies recently who are in the Markells and in my opinion, they are huge on them, so if that's the case it's no wonder they won't stay on. If you send pics send one of him in the shoes too. That may be the problem. Marcia RE: Wont keep shoes on ok **phew** here's the questions and answers... hope it helps.. How old is your son? jacob is 6 months old. Who is casting him? dr albright-trained (supposedly) by dr ponseti himself. Did he have a tenotomy? yes Can you tell us how they did that? snipped the heel cord (in office) then recasted for three weeks How many casts has he had so far? 7.. the 5th for 3 weeks, the last two after the reoccurance. At what age did he start treatment? he started around 3 months Were the casts changed weekly? yes til the fifth. Are the toes on the casts kicked out to 70 degrees? they were, yes. Were the toes on his current shoes adjusted to kick out at 70 degrees? only the affected foot. the other is at 45. Was the bar on the FAB set at shoulder width? pretty much, yes. im afraid to ask the doctor to restart the casting a third time. i dont want him to call like, DCF on me and tell them im not taking care of my child properly. as soon as i can get my digital camera working, i can send a pic of his foot currently. Guest guest
, All in all it sounds like things have been done right - but that leaves the big gaping question of why won't the shoe fit properly??? In my totally non-professional opinion I'm still leaning towards a lack of dorsiflexion because this seems to be a problem area for many less experienced doctors. curious, why did you wait till 3 months old to start the treatment? Not that it should matter, lots of babies have started later than that with excellent progress. Anyway - don't worry about things like DCF - easy for me to say, right? Those people can be like Nazi's but I dont think this is an area you really need to worry about. It's obvious you are TRYING to get your child treated. Used to scare me pretty bad too though - my oldest who went through inferior cf treatment used to fall and always had black eyes cuz he couldn't walk on his crooked feet and would bang his head on tables and stuff. Again, is getting a 2nd opinion an option? flying out to Iowa or St. Louis or somewhere to see a more experienced Ponseti doctor? Depending on where you live but there's doctors out there who can help. Maybe the clubbed foot is leaning towards a complex/atypical case, and few doctors really know how to handle that unless you go see one with major experience. Hey everyone else on here, help me out! We'll keep trying to help you - but ya, pictures would be nice and could also be sent to Iowa for reference. OH - have you found Kori's tip sheet for using a FAB? It's full of advice for these things too and might help you start to narrow down the issue. Look in the files/links. s.
