It could get tricky convincing Angel Flights to take you that far, but I know

there are other options for flying (help me out here gang) - I've heard other

folks here found other free flights. I don't mean to discourage you, you never

know till you try so do try!

Iowa City has a small air port that Angel planes can land at, not sure how big

of a plane can land there. I've had airport people drive me to the motel or

RMD, and other times the RMD people came there to pick me up when my plane

landed.

When we went, well with I used AF but with Everett we just drove - but we

did stay at the RMD for the extended stays. A few times I had to spend the

first night or two in a motel until a room at RMD opened up but that's no

biggie. It's really easier to stay the whole duration in one trip though

because you'll be changing casts every five days, so just stick it out. We were

there 3 weeks with Everett, changing casts every 5 days. The RMD is nice and

cozy, and of course there's a bus stop across the street (look in the files I

think for CamBus or something) - that bus is free to ride and can take you to

the clinic, but also take you about any wehre else when you get cabin fever -

there are some nice museums down town and a ped mall, movie house, etc. the bus

can take you to - or just get on and take a sight seeing ride (we did that a

lot!). I found using the bus to my dr. appts was easier than arranging a

shuttle van with the RMD volunteers. In nice weather it's with in walking

distance so that is an option also. RMD often has baby strollers you can borrow

to go for walks.

Now when you go back for check ups I find it easier to book a motel than to use

the RMD for one night. This is because the RMD requires a lot of paper work,

parking fees, etc., and then you have to clean your room and wash your sheets,

etc., before you leave. With a motel you can just pull in, and pull back out

with out all the paper work and house work involved for a one night stay. We

stay at the Iowa Lodge I think it's called. Just a little rat trap motel but

it's cheap and near to the clinic with a Burger King not too far away for

breakfast the next morning as we drive out of town.

Three days travel with a baby is going to be hard and long in a car so if you

can find a flight you'll be better off I think.

Angel Flights?

Hi guys...We are researching our options for the trip to Dr.

Ponseti...Don't know if we should stay at the RMH for the whole course

of treatment. Has anyone used the Angel Flights? It is 984 from here

to Iowa City, and 951 miles from here to Cedra Rapids. Would they fly

us back and forth for the appointments, or is it usually just the

initial 'to' , you stay in Iowa for a month, and they fly you back?

Don't know if we will drive (3 days one way) or look into the Angel

Flight option. Just looking for stories of experience. Thanks,

I don't know Angel Flights because I arrived to Iowa City from Italy. My

experience is to leave in RMH one month 14 nov to 10 dic 2005.

It is exceptional experience.

The staff of RMH and the volunteers help all very well.

To meet the very nice person with some problem that help you.
