Question? I am 5'6 " and weigh at least 300lbs (maybe even 10 or 15

pounds more) and used a calculator to determine my BMI is 49. But

I'm afraid I might not be accepted by Kaiser because I don't have any

serious co-morbidities(sp?).

I have some joint pain when I walk upstairs and I get winded " very "

easily and sweat a lot if I do anything physical but my blood

pressure is between 137/89 and 145/83 (which I don't think is super

dangerous - yet). My cholesterol is normal. I have a hard time

sleeping but I've never been tested or diagnosed with sleep apnea.

Do all of these things above qualify as co-morbidities serious enough

to warrant WLS according to Kaiser's guidelines? Does anyone know

how bad your general health needs to be to get approved?

It's discouraging to think I may to need to push myself along to get

worse and worse just so I'll have more health problems and can get

approved.

(just worried and frustrated)

Thanks,

It sounds to me like you would qualify with those

comorbs, especially if your primary doc is

supportive. I was 5'10 " , about 320, and my

comorbidity ended up being pre-arthritis changes

in the knees according to x-rays. It's certainly worth a try!

I won't be there Friday, I am going to Reno for the weekend. I've been working hard with daycare, family, husband's move, painting, yards alot of house stuff (looking really nice) and so much more. So this weekend me and a friend are headed for some fun. Then Monday is support group, I hate missing swim aerobics, but I haven't been to support for 3 months with all of life happening, so I guess I will go to support. Hope to see you there. Then back to swim aerobics on Wednesday. Yes, I will be shocked if you or anyone of the ones on here ever show up. I will continue it is such good exercise, I love it. I am doing good. Take care. You are right Barbara. How are you these days? Take care. Donna J."Hokoana, Barbara" wrote:

As of last July when I was excepted, BMI had to be over 50 with no co-morbidities. But someone told me the standards just changed again, but Im not sure which way.

ly, when your BMI is above 45, I don't think co-morbidities are even required. At least, that was the standard at one pont.
