Guest guest
my surgeon says absolutely no soda after surgery. they are basically all sugar and bad for us. he does say a diet soda occasionally is ok, but not to make it a habit. i drink way too many sodas and attribute alot of my weight gain to soda, so i will be staying away from them post op. gale in maryland open rny july 19, 2004 Curious: Carbonation??? Yey or Ney My doctor explained to me and insisted that I do not drink any kind of carbonated beverages until I am three months post-op. Others I have seen on this site drink Diet sodas with meals to aid digestion. Others just enjoy them. Please post what your doctor recommended. I am just curious. I am still going to follow my doc's orders but I am just curious I guess. Thanks! bethany
Guest guest
i only drink sugar free juices (Old Orchard) has a great low carb sugar fruit juice. I will add some flat sprite or 7up to it at times. I haven't tried OJ at all. I was told that if I let the diet pops sit for about 10 minutes after opening it would be ok. I used to be a diet coke junkie but I haven't had one in many months. A can of diet sprite or 7up will last me three days now...lol. Guest guest
Wow....to hear all this stuff about carbonation is scary.......... My doctor said no carbonation EVER......he gave me 2 reasons 1) The carbonation will stretch out the pouch. He said to put a soda in a plastic baggy and let it sit for a while. See what happens to the bag. That is the smaller of the 2 reasons 2) Since there are no gastric acids in your pouch, there is nothing to counteract the carbonation. Therefore, the carbonation will eat away at the lining of your pouch and cause ulcers. My doctor has said that it does not matter if you let it sit for 10 minutes. Even though it is flat, it is still carbonated. My doctor does go around the country and actually the world to train other doctors in this surgery. He has also had it done, so he knows what we are going through. He said you can train yourself to eat or drink anything, but why would you.....We all went through this surgery for a reason......Why do anything to sabotage it. Guest guest
just goes to show how different doctors are. my doctor too teaches others the profession and has been in it for over 30 years saving lives from morbid obesity. we all just need to listen to our own doctors and use common sense. laurette 4/23/04 open rny 309/290/252/150 St. Charity Cleveland, Ohio
