Okay, it's been forever since I posted on this site. My oldest (now 3) had tort

and plagio and we banded him, with great results. Now, we have a 4 month old

son who also has tort and plagio. This time, however, we're unsure about

banding him. The neurosurgeon we saw (different from the one our oldest saw)

said new research has shown that kids do fine without banding. He explained

that if we put a helmet on our baby, he'd definitely look better at 1 year old

than if we didn't. However, if we dont' band him, our doctor said by age 3 or 4

he'd be just fine. He said he writes about a third of the prescriptions for

helmets that he did 10 years ago. Has anyone else heard that there's been a

change in attitude about this?

I thought it would be easier this time because we caught the plagio early and

have been repositioning him, plus I already know that a helmet really isn't any

big deal (expect for the money). My husband and I are disagreeing about it,

though. I'm afraid to risk it and he thinks I'm just looking for problems with

our son. Anyone else have trouble deciding to band their second? Sorry this is

so long and thanks for any advice!

I haven't seen or heard of a trends like that at all... in fact... I think that there is MORE banding going on... as drs are becoming more educated and especially with back to sleep.

Do you have a CT near by? They can do a free eval with pics to see the severity and to see if banding is even needed. You can then take that info to your ped.

HTH!
