Guest guest
Hi, Jeneane and everyone, I have a question about your daycare situation, because my way of looking at it would be affected by one factor (for my own child, your child, or anyone's child). Is Sam's irritability being acted out (hitting, kicking, etc.)? I volunteer in a child program at an adult Bible study. We had to ask a mom to withdraw an ASD child two years ago because he was striking out against other kids in his class. My very gentle ASD child is fine within our program. Our criteria for placing a child is *not* whether disabilities are present (we have had four or five ASD kids that I know of--only one of whom had to leave the program) but rather whether violence is present. Even if a child were " NT " we would ask the mother to take him out of the program if he were violent. For one thing, it is hard to have enough insurance as a volunteer agency (or small daycare) to cover a lawsuit prompted by parents whose children were injured. But most importantly, who among us would voluntarily send our child somewhere where he/she was being hit or kicked, even if the child doing it had an ASD? Just some thoughts from another perspective, Jeneane. You didn't say how Sam is acting out, so I am hoping that means that she is only saying irritable things and not actually acting out physically. Cheers, M.
