Guest guest
, Sulfasalazine is much cheaper. It's an old drug that is no longer patented. Perhaps you can switch to that? PJ > > > I have problems with tomatoes too. It was quite obvious as i'm sure it was when you ate them. I'm on the same path, except i'm going to take a 1 week break from them because with no insurance a single bottle of asacol costs $350.00 and I can't afford that! Ridiculous. > > > As far as gas goes, I had alot of gas for about 2 months when I first started changing my diet to follow SCD. You can make the best of it like I did... farts with ALWAYS be funny, I don't care what people say. Plus, you can go crop dusting.... > > Here's what you do.... > > In the grocery store, or any place with isles you walk down an isle with nobody in it and let one go. Then when you get far enough away look back and wait for someone to walk into it and watch their reaction. How are you doing on that? > It's actually azathioprine, but essentially the same thing. I'm doing okay I guess. I got my first bloodwork done last week and I don't seem to be having any bad reactions to the drug, which is good. It wasn't working very well at first though, since it takes a while to kick in, so they put me on prednisone for now. I suspect fillers in the azath. because it actually made my symptoms worse at first, but now with the pred I'm having solid BMs for the first time in forever. Which is good, but my stomach feels so big all the time now! And I think one of the two meds is making me more gassy. Oh well. > My plan is to add in a lot of new foods while on the drugs, since my parents and doctors really want me to have more variety. And gain weight. And such. And I haven't really had that much success either (like you) with finding a correlation between what I eat and how I feel, other than my bad reactions to cheese and tomatoes. Well, last weekend I tried four new foods in one day, and BOY was I hurting the next morning, but other than that, it's been mostly guesswork. So I think I'm just going to slowly but steadily increase my variety of foods unless I see a really obvious reaction. And hopefully with my iron infusion next week, I'll start feeling better too. Feels weird to be sort of on the 'conventional meds' route for now, but I guess it's sometimes necessary. > Peace =)Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 50 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 35 mg 1x per day > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft's powerful SPAM protection. > http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/210850552/direct/01/ >
Guest guest
Start slowly, some people are allergic to sulfa and can't tolerate it. I may be wrong, but I think Asacol is the only drug of that type that has no sulfa in it. Debbie 40 cd dx'd 3/17/2002 scd 12.05 > > , > Sulfasalazine is much cheaper.
