Guest guest
Jodi, I think you should keep trying to find a solution if the surgery is absolutely needed for functional reasons. I thought there was nothing worse than these braces and there are days when I feel the urge to tear them out but now I think I will begin to appreciate the fact that mine are on. I can imagine how disappointed you are. To accept that you need braces and surgery is hard, but when you discover that you can't help youself must be devastating. I am sorry Karola > > Well after 2 attempts to put braces on me both failed. The first time > (monday) 11 bracketts fell off before I left the office...so yesterday > they tried etching on the porcelin and then before I left I had lost 6 > bracketts...soooooooooo he took them off and said he was done > trying. I am devastated. This means no surgery no help for Jodi. Guest guest
I didn't follow your whole story, so maybe this isn't even applicable - but did your ortho try banding you? I have a couple of crowns, and instead of my ortho just trying to attach the regular ol' brackets to the crowns, he banded them. He said that with crowns (and I would suspect the same thing with veneers) that it's much easier and of course, a lot more " stable " for the tooth itself. Now, along the same lines, if your ortho hasn't thought about banding you and is ready to give up... I'd suggest finding another ortho And if he has tried banding you and I just missed that particular thread... then everything I said is pretty much moot
Guest guest
By the way... the kind of banding I'm referring to is where the brace encircles the whole tooth as opposed to being just glued on to the front of the tooth (thought I'd clarify that since there's so much talk of being banded - with rubber bands... )
Guest guest
Hi Jodi, I'm so sorry! I definitely don't think you should give up. I can't imagine how discouraged and frustrated you must feel though. I think you should seek out a new orthodontist- one that is specialized in perhaps more difficult cases like yours where the braces aren't being attached to regular enamel. I am curious how experienced your ortho is. I got burned the first time around by my ortho in high school. Different circumstances, but it definitely highlighted for me that not all orthodontists are created equal. Perhaps you can seek out recommendations through other adults that have braces (adults tend to have had more work done in their mouth). Also try getting some recommendations through dentists and particularly dental specialists. Maybe some different surgeons can offer recommendations since the surgery is usually performed on adults and usually requires braces. They must know of some good orthodontists you can try. Maybe you can look up with orthodontists specialize in adult orthodontics. They would be more experienced in dealing with the adult mouth that more likely has had some work done in there. After you get some recommendations, see if any of the names repeat. At least you've had records taken. I wonder if that one ortho, since you paid for them, will let you take your records. After all, you are now, due to HIM!, having to seek out and undertake the added expense of finding a New ortho. I would imagine he has some sort of obligation to you that way. It's his fault he's incapable. He should be able to make copies/provide you with doubles. Anyway, all of this is said without knowing how much research you did when chosing your " current " ortho or what your specific situation is- so I do acknowledge that what I am suggesting may not be applicable. I just wanted to think up some more ideas that maybe you could try. Again,I am really sorry because this must be such a challenge for you. I just can't imagine that there isn't some doctor out there that can help you. The best of luck to you Jodi. Stay encouraged! and let us know how everything goes for you. We're thinking of you!! Guest guest
That's a good idea! Back in the day, when my mom had braces, all her teeth were banded for 4 long years. I think that was the old school method. Not the most attractive or ideal, but braces are temporary anyway and if the bands do the job and stay put, then ya can't complain..... I wonder if that ortho thought of trying bands. Not all Doctors are the most creative, original thinkers, nor are they all great with " problems " and problem solving. He sounds young, and like a bad apple that is used to typical children's mouths and the quick- fix. Poor Jodi! -Katja > > By the way... the kind of banding I'm referring to is where the brace > encircles the whole tooth as opposed to being just glued on to the > front of the tooth > > (thought I'd clarify that since there's so much talk of being banded - > with rubber bands... )
