Guest guest
Please excuse the disjointed nature of this missive, as it's hard to look down without drooling all over the keyboard. I've been lurking for a bit, as I had upper and lower jaw surgery on February 3rd with Dr. Arnett in Santa Barbara. Things proceeded almost exactly like he said they would - first day was great, second day there was swelling, by day four I wondered why on earth I decided to have the surgery, and by day seven, I was okay again. I'm on...day nine, I guess? I haven't needed pain meds since about day five, just some swelling and my lips still feel huge. However, I'm having two issues: a) DROOLING. Seriously, I should wear a lobster bib whereever I go. Does everyone have this? IN the time it's taken to type this much, it looks like I'm foaming at the mouth! The packing that's on the top of my mouth feels like it's slowly coming off. Sometimes when I rinse, it falls out (gross, I'm sorry) and sometimes it feels like when I swallow, I'm going to swallow it. Is this bad and/or dangerous? I'm not spitting blood or anything, and I'm soing my rinses religiously. (I can't wait til I start brushing!) I'm drinking a lot of carbonated beverages 'cause I'm still having a problem with phlegm, and I don't know if this is making it bad or worse or it doesn't really matter. If anyone's got any experiences to share, I'd be most grateful. The Ever-Drooly, Nina
Guest guest
Hi Nina, Welcome to the Wonderful World of Drool! I was an inhabitant for a while myself (I'm going on 7 weeks post-op, upper + genio). I was so bad that one time I woke up with drool on my *socks* -- boy, that was glamorous. I have no idea on god's green earth how the drool got all the way down from my mouth to my socks while I was asleep in bed, but it did. I think the drooling hit me around day 10 or 12 (whenever the chin bandage from my genio came off) and it lasted for about a week or so after that. It will definitely get better as the swelling goes down -- just keep lots of kleenex on hand in the meantime!
