I don't know if this will help you find what you are looking for, but

I recently got a few ideas together for another surgery pal...I will

post it below, take a look and ask whatever questions you may need to

please! Good luck JO

PS--really get creative bec I am thin too, always have been and I

didn't loose, but think I gained a little with this diet! :)

I wanted to be sure I kept my diet well rounded---also I hate shakes

so I ate no shakes during my 3 wks closed and gained a litttle

weight-an impossible feat for me ;)

so here's a few...take these and just experiment!

zucchini---

fry sliced and skinned (if you prefer) zucchini in a pan with

butter...until translucent. Remove and add to blender, add more

butter,

and just enough water to get it moving...SO Tasty!

mashed potatoes---

I actually tried boxed-and not so shabby! follow box and once cooked,

put

into blender-add more liquid-like water or milk/soy...S & P to taste...

Oatmeal---

Make like normal and then add some extra water and butter and

blend...should be thin enough for straw...I love Brown maple and

sugar--very tasty for meal or snack time.

SALAD!!

oh yes it is possible...

I used:

Iceberg lettuce--more water than romaine

a little tomato

cucumbers

carrots-shred for easy blending

black olives

cheese-grated

BLEND------

you may need to add a little water--and then I added a splash (bec

spices

are very intense or were for me when I was closed) of non-creamy

Italian

dressing...ranch/blue cheese didn't seem to work as well-thicker...

I also just blended cucumbers with some water and a splash of Italian

dress...chilled in the fridge this was SO refreshing and tasty!

And if you're open to cheese, you can add things to that can of

campbells

cheddar soup--like broccoli or spinach or green beans...blended of

course...

and if you're into shakes but they're too boring, try adding juice to

a

vanilla, like orange or better yet orange-tangerine that's less

acidic...or a funky grape-cran drink or something.

apple sauce! (but still blend, or you'll pop a blood vessel getting

that

through a straw.)

***if you can't get you hands on the larger 7-11 slurpee straw then

grab a

sports bottle and cut one of those larger ones in half and just be

sure to

keep them clean! works MUCH better then normal straws...(too thin)

Hope this helps...I was determined to not feel like I was keeping

myself

from food...and people today still think the salad idea sounds nasty,

but

honestly those things are just as good if not better that way! I even

blended chinese food, the rice was tougher but chicken chow mein

worked

very well...and I even blended stuffed peppers...that was heavenly!

and chicken and turkey cutlets...not beef or pork-too gritty, blended

sweetish meatballs...EVERYTHING I wanted...also if you like veggies,

Green Giant makes bags of mixed...I bough the roasted potatoe, cheese,

brocoli mix, popped some in the micro...added that and some butter

and water to the blender and YUM-MY! Better that way than normal I

can tell you that now that I am open! :)

There are tons more, so ENJOY and if you want more-just ask! JO

Those recipes sound awesome... right up my alley- I am much more of a

fresh fruit and veggie person than chocolate and dessert. I also love

zucchini... and honestly, nothing right now - not even blended lettuce-

sounds worse than 3 weeks of nasty ensure. If you have other recipes,

you can post them or email me direct at teeze@.... Also, did you

use the squeeze-n-zip bags? I was told straws are discouraged. The bags

seem to be OK but they only last 1 or 2 feedings and they are not

cheap!

Thanks again!

I was on liquids for just over four weeks -- got the bands off (part-

time, at least) yesterday in order to finally switch to soft foods

(which has been tricky learning to eat again, but that's another

post!). Besides milk shakes with banana and breakfast powder, here's

mostly what I ate:

MASHED POTATOES. I used the instant and made them with chicken broth

(instead of water), then used lots of extra butter and whole milk to

thin them down and boost the calories. I also sometimes added sour

cream or shredded cheese for extra calories and to vary the taste a

little. You could also blend in cooked carrots or other soft veggies

that would mix well.

SWEET POTATOES. I found them already prepared at my grocery store in

one of the refrigerated sections (though they might have just been

stocking it for the holidays?). I thinned them down with milk,

butter, and a little sour cream.

CREAM OF WHEAT for breakfast or a snack. Make it with milk instead

of water and add sugar. The " quick " stuff you cook on the stove for

a couple of minutes seemed to work better (that is, it was smoother

and easier to get through the straw) than the " instant " stuff that

comes in the individual packets that you just microwave.

SOUP + TOFU. Get the softest tofu you can find (it's often

called " silken " tofu) and just throw in a chunk with whatever soup

you want and blend it. It doesn't change the taste at all -- just

makes the soup a little thicker and adds calories as well as lots of

protein. My favorite was butternut squash soup plus tofu and a

spoonful of plain yogurt or sour cream.

I started to get a little sick of regular cream soups and potato-

based soups after a couple of weeks -- I was craving " meatier "

tastes, so I switched to lentil soup, clam chowder, onion soup, etc.

The chunkier soups take straining, though.

YOGURT. You can get drinkable yogurt at the store -- Yoplait (I

think) has a breakfast yogurt drink out now, plus there are other

brands. I sometimes had to thin it a little more with a bit more

milk.

SHAKES. For a little variation, you might try some other soft fruits -

- canned peaches or pears, maybe?

Good luck, and hang in there!

How you feel about peanut butter blended into a chocolate shake,

perhaps with some protein powder mixed in?

Mashed potatoes made with butter and cream, and blended really thin,

with chicken or beef broth? Or better yet, vichysoisse, but without

the chives, or with them blended in really well? (As anybody who's

been reading my posts for long knows, I'm also a big fan of sweet

potato vichysoisse, made with a lot of chicken broth and some white

wine, (or without the wine if you prefer), a bit of lemon juice and a

bit of ginger.
