nut flour alternatives for ASD children

Hi, I have 2 children(ASD/ADHD) and both have been SCD since October. At first

they both seemed to do well with the nut flours and baked items. However now my

youngest (2yr)seems to have problems digesting nuts. I think his BMs have

gotten worse. I talked to a Dr. but she said to just leave out the nuts, but

what alternatives do i have for baking things. I have increased their digestive

enzyme intake along with their probiotics (thinking that it is probably a yeast

problem?). anyone have any suggestions about what I could use. I tried coconut

flour, they didn't like the taste, and that stuff just absorbs any liquid you

add to it.

thanks

,I am currently reading Nourishing Traditions and in it it explains that beans/seeds/nuts all have enzyme inhibitors to help preserve them until they are ready to sprout. To eliminate this, the book recommends soaking the nuts in a brine solution for about 7+ hours or overnight. Then re-dehydrate them and they are ready to use or snack on. I currently trying this to see if there is a difference for my husband digesting pecans. You might give that a try to see if it helps. What about souffle bread? It uses minimal nuts and mostly egg whites. I have also seen cheese used instead of nuts, but with ASD/ADHD I am not sure you are using dairy yet. The enzyme inhibitors just make your pancreas work harder to make enough enzymes to digest them if you

don't soak, but if your childrend aren't producing enough as it is, it could go through undigested and cause problems. Are you trying to use coconut flour like it is nut flour or do you have proper coconut flour recipes? When using coconut flour, you need to use copious amounts of egg compared to the amount of the coconut flour and very little oil or liquid. I find that when I make bread with it, I like the bread dehydrated into melba toast type rounds instead of as 'fresh' bread. Also, what about crepes with coconut flour?AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19 months LDN 3 mg To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sat, February 6, 2010 5:18:00 AMSubject: nut flour alternatives for ASD children

,Here are some recipes, but you will need to weed through or convert to make SCD legal. Here is how to measure:http://www.tiana-coconut.com/coconut_flour_conversion.htmland here are the recipes.http://www.tiana-coconut.com/coconut_flour_recipes.htmhttp://www.freecoconutrecipes.com/gluten_free_coconut_flour_recipes.htmI think that your reaction to LDN was due to the hashimotos and isn't a normal occurrence for most users. You would

need to investigate how LDN could, if at all, be used for someone with your condition. I understand your concerns regarding your children, but unless they have the same condition--which could be tested for in advance--I wouldn't assume they would react the same way. It is possible to begin with as little at 1mg and go up from there if you have concerns regarding their tolerance. Not trying to push it, just to give you something to think about.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19 monthsLDN 3 mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sun, February 7, 2010 3:15:19 AMSubject: Re: nut flour alternatives for ASD children

Hi, I don't have my kids on dairy, doing the gf/cf diet also. I use eggs, but try not to use too many, they have sensitivities to them. They can handle 1 to eat, and at most 4 in a recipe. I don't know what souffle bread is.?

I had been just replacing the nut flour with coconut flour. where do you find coconut flour recipes at?

Also, I have not put my kids on LDN. I have hashimotos, and tried it (mainly to see what affect it might have before putting kids on it) and I had massive heart palpitations. We lowered the dose, but still didn't seem like my body was accepting it. I'm a little afraid to put the kids on it since they can't really express how they feel a lot of the time.

thanks for the input. I will look up coconut flour recipes, see what i can find and souffle bread.

thanks, cindy
