Guest guest
Hi , i was scared right up until surgery day. I too have degenterative disc space narrowing and throid disease and was up to 378 pounds when I got my surgery but i knew I was not happy living like I was. I am now currently pregnanct with baby #4 and feel great. i would of never felt this good pregnant before. I have not even made it to my goal weight yet but i feel awesome. the risk of death in gastric bypass surgery from what I have learned anyways is 1 in 200 BUT the ones who usually die are in really bad shape to start with, like heart disease, severe diabetes, or extremely obese like in the high 400's-500 pounds. that is what I have read anyways about the odds and what my surgeon told me. I made it through my surgery without any complications and I thank God for that. I pray for everyone that is having this surgery but i alos pray for those who don't and may die from their weight. the choice for surgery is up to you. Only you know how you feel and how healthy you are now. you don't seem too big to me since I was only 5'7 and 378 but alot of people carry it different. I have a male tenant who just had it done and he was 400 plus pounds and did well. i have a female friend having it done in May and she is 290 pounds but only 5'3. SHe has 3 tinykids, 1 3 year old and twin girls that are 1. She is scared too. Do some reading and some soul searching and them make your decision on what is best for you Don't be afraid to ask you surgeon any questions including how well HIS patients do. How many surgeries has HE done, ect. You want an experienced surgeon with good outcomes too, that is a big key. good Luck and God bless. Guest guest
, I am 28 years old, have 2 beautiful children, Amy age 11 (Yes, I was very young when I had her) and Austin age 5 (Our adopted Nephew). I am married to an amazing man. I had everything going for me except I was 5'5 " and 305 lbs. I decided that I had to do something or I would never see my kids graduate college or have my grand children. That scared me more then the risk of the surgery. I decided that having a surgery as dangerous as open heart surgery isn't going to be nearly as bad as having it when I am sick and older. It truly didn't make sense for me to wait. So last Tuesday I had my bypass surgery laparoscopically. Today I am feeling fantastic, getting my protein and water in and all my vitamins. I have lost 20.5 lbs in that short amount of time! I am well on my way to being the soccer mom that I want to be. There is one other benefit to me and that is that I could possibly have more children in the future and my husband is now finally so excited that he's going to get himself checked to see if maybe our 10 years of infertility are caused by him (doubtful) and then we will plan on getting pregnant in about a year and adding to our amazing family. My thoughts and prayers will be with you as you decided if this surgery is right for you. You will have to be at peace with your decision. On the table day of surgery I almost said nope... but I knew that it would be a help to me to do this now and not put it off.
