Guest guest
>> Of those who are having crumbling teeth issues........ Did you for any length of time use: 1. chewable multi-vites? (just started) 2. chewable (pretend) calcium? Like Tums, Viactiv......? (did them a year ago, don't now) My crumbling teeth started long before my weight loss surgery, and I imagine it has a lot to do with calcium deficiency during my pregnancies. Somewhere I read " for every baby, a tooth, " an old wives' saying that has been true for me. I had all but 2 of my wisdom teeth until I had children. ~~ Lyn G
Guest guest
I'm going to give another perspective on this... I used Viactiv for over 2 years after WLS, and I still do 2 chewable Flintstone's a day. My teeth are the healthiest they've been in many years. But, I will say that I finally found a dentist that I really like, and I now floss every day (wasn't good about that before) and get them cleaned every 6 months. I also had always had ultra-sensitive teeth and gums, and now they're pretty much normal, too. in NJ *************************** > Of those who are having crumbling teeth issues........ > > Did you for any length of time use: > 1. chewable multi-vites? > 2. chewable (pretend) calcium? Guest guest
, Question 1 and 2....only for a short time to both. I was told by dentist that my enamble is very thin. Had only two cavities by age 26. Those were from the age 15. Age 27 had WLS. Began having problems with cavities. At first I was told that I was just not a kid anymore. More and more cavities....11, 9, 8, 12....each time. Was written a prescription for floride. In 1999, broke my first tooth. In 2000, my first root cannal. I gave up counting cavities. In 2001, second root cannal. Last time I wrote on this subject to the list, 2 broken teeth...where the root cannals are. Now, 4 broken teeth. I stopped going to the dentist last year. I can not afford $1000 to fix my teeth with insurance. Last two rounds of having them fixed was $1000 each time. I have ALWAYS taken great care of my teeth. My mother was not raised that way. Kids brushed after their permanent teeth came in. She insisted us kids, took care of our teeth. I have always brushed no matter what I ate, flossed daily and used floride toothpaste. My first dexascan was last year so I don't exactly know when the decline began. I do have osteopenia. I do also have acid problems as well. I have woke in the night choking and a horrible burning all the way up the pipe and the throat. I take Nexium for that. Hummmm.....I don't chew ice, I do drink diet sodas from time to time....maybe more often sometimes. I do take Zoloft which supposedly dries the mouth. My problems began before I began that. I had always been so proud of my teeth. I began to morn my teeth each time I went to the dentists. I had never, ever been afraid of going until the problems. Now I consider having them pulled and wearing dentures. I hate the thought but no dentist has been able to figure out what to tell me. No one can see any clue that I'm not taking care of them. I have good gums, no build up....throwing up the white flag here!!??
