Guest guest
Thank you for your tips!! The muscle physiologist at the store where I buy my supplements and the nutritionist at Beth Israel (, who is WONDERFUL) also concur with you that I should load up on some protein as well as some carbs in the hour or so before the game so that I get both the available energy from the carbs and the sustained energy from the protein. Also, I will not work out the morning of the game, as well as rescheduling my eating for the day so that I get the bulk of my calories before the game. I will be doing up a shake and a glass of OJ in the hour before game time. The peanut butter and crackers will be in my bag of tricks that day as well. If not, I may float like my knuckleball! :-) Thanks again! God bless, Joe <>< > Actually, a combination of carbs and prtein are best when feeling light > headed from low blood sugar. Guest guest
>> Actually, a combination of carbs and prtein are best when feeling light headed from low blood sugar. Yes, but if you're properly fueled up with protein before the exercise, you shouldn't get the low blood sugar in the first place. He fueled up with carbs, and when the carbs were used up, crash went the blood sugar. We're trying for prevention for next time. And crackers -- I keep seeing people telling me to put peanut butter on crackers -- this sends me into carb spiral hell every time. There are 7 grams of carbs in the peanut butter -- I eat it right off the spoon if I need it, but don't give me crackers... that's one of the main ingredients in my weight re-gain. ~~ Lyn
Guest guest
I must admit I skimmed the email. I totally understand that it is better to prevent it if possible. But it is not always possible. Therefore a quick and effective remedy is a combination of protein and carbs. I almost always suggest either peanut butter or cheese. Being a recovering diabetic, I always carry protein and crackers with me. I don't always need them but they are there. This may not work for everybody but it works for me. Guest guest
The manager of the gym where I work out is a bicyclist, a rabid one at that. He recommended that I use a combo protein-carb powder called Endurox after my workouts to restore me. So, I put two scoops of powder in a squeeze bottle, and I fill it at the water cooler after my weight training exercises and then sip it while I do 1/2 hour of aerobics on a stationary bike. Apparently, Endurox is a staple of competitive cyclists. There are two flavors, orange and tropical punch (I think). He recommended the orange, so that's what I got. Tasts is NOT great--takes getting used to. But, now that I am used to it, it is OK. NOW . . . if you want a really good tasting protein-only drink, the newest " big thang " is Nectar. I just ordered three 2.2-pound jugs of the powder from http://www.wlssuccess.com. Flavors are Apple Ecstasy, Very Cherry Berry, Caribbean Cooler . They are so swamped by orders that they have just sent out partial back-orders by Priority Mail! I got the Caribbean Cooler and the Cherry Berry today and tried the former. It tastes like a piña colada. I'd give it an 85 to 90 out of 100 in taste. My plan is to use this when I exercise instead of the Endurox. It is cheaper, tastes better, and has no carbs. You can also get samples for $1 each (I didn't bother--went for broke). Good luck, Steve
Guest guest
Thank you Steve! I have been wanting to try the nectar. It sounds like it is pretty good. What kind of protein is in it? How many calories and grams of protein are in a scoop and how big is a serving? God bless, Joe <>< Re: Sudden Weakness The manager of the gym where I work out is a bicyclist, a rabid one at that. Guest guest
Nectar has 23g protein per scoop. You can shake it up in 4 oz water, or whatever you like. It's whey isolate, so if you can take it with some fat of some kind, it'll be better for us. A dab of PB, maybe? Bear in mind that almost all whey proteins deliver 30g in about 1/2C powder. Not exactly, but roughly. The mfr scoop is not magic. It's just the size they use. I'd have to go check, but I think the scoop they use is about 1/3C powder. That's just a rule of thumb to bear in mind. Don't be fooled by 1 sc = this, 2 sc = that. It's all about the same amount of powder. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc.
