Terry, thanks for the info. I knew of some of that but not everything. If I get strep again i'm just going to the ER where they have the antibiotic butt shot :) That way no oral antibiotics and i'm good to go.On a side note, both the rapid test and cultured test came back neg for strep, so it was either a virus or some other type of infection that mirrored strep. I'm sure i'll post my frustrations if I get it again, and then i'll have nobody to blame but myself for only finishing half the bottle!-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: TERUM359@...Date: Sun, 31 Jan 2010 22:35:34 -0500Subject: Re: OT Antibiotics

--it's not a good idea to stop taking the antibiotics (abx) halfway through--esp with strep. Strep infections cause such morbidity throughout the body, that if you don't eradicate, you run the risk of long term heart problems, post strep arthritis, scarlet fever, rheumatic fever, etc.

, unfortunately, Levaquin is one of the abx that predisposes to C. difficile, which causes pseudomembranous colitis. For us IBD'ers. it is more severe of a problem. Perhaps you can call your MD and explain this and ask for Cipro ( related to Levaquin) or, ask for an IM ( shot in the butt muscle) of a comparable abx to bypass the gut and relieve some symptoms. Explain you are going on a trip. It is not a good idea to skip abx doses, you run the risk of allowing the bugs not yet eradicated to become resistant to the abx you are taking and then they are no longer effective. It is important to tell your MD the symptoms are so bad that you stopped for 4 days. Please discuss this with your MD and do some problem solving with them, because this will only snowball.
