Guest guest
Thanks for your support. I feel better just having written down my frustration. And , I totally get what you mean about analyzing other people's jaws and seeing what they " need " in terms of surgery. In fact, several people I have talked to say that they were told they needed surgery but they decided they didn't want to. While on the one hand that frustrated me because my problem was noticeable and I didn't really have a choice to not have it done, it made me glad that I had the courage to go for it and after this year is over and I'm out of braces I will have a nice bite that fits the way it's supposed to. Until then, though, I have to be patient and hopefully after the swelling goes down I will look better (I'm almost 5 weeks post-op) and will finally be comfortable with the new me. Guest guest
Hi Kara - Glad to see you're feeling a bit better. I'm also a college student, and this is making it difficult for me to decide on a surgery date. The earliest I could have it done is next winter break, but I'm very nervous about having to come back to school before I am ready. Did you have to go back to school after about 4 weeks? Did you feel like you had enough recovery time? I know it's all relative, but from what I've heard, I'd like to give myself at least 6 weeks to recover! Obviously it would be much easier to just recover in the comfort of your own home. In your experience, do you feel that the rush of going back to school made it too much worse, recovery-wise? Also, what kind of upper/lower surgery did you have? Thanks for sharing your experience. > > Thanks for your support. I feel better just having written down > my frustration. Guest guest
, I went back to grad school exactly 2 weeks after upper and lower (Florida apparently thinks that we only need 2 weeks off - but that is another issue). I was still drooling because I couldn't close my mouth yet (and still cannot all the way because of the splint - currently 5 weeks post op - I get to get it off on Friday!!!!). It was not fun but manageable. My professors were very understanding and allowed me not to fully participate until I was more comfortable talking in front of others. The eating would have been bad at home or at school so there wasn't really an issue there. However, I was pretty tired because I lost a lot of blood and my face still hurt. If you have 4 weeks off over break I think that you would be fine to go back to school but that is a decision that only you can make. Good luck with school and your decision! > > > > > > Hi Kara - Glad to see you're feeling a bit better.
