Guest guest
Josie,I doubt it is die-off so soon, but it could be her immune system trying to recuperate from the 6MP. Were the eggs fried? She might be sensitive to protein/fats if her diet before had a lot of starches and carbs. The body will adjust to whatever food source it is mainly getting, so if she is going from higher starches/carbs to more dense food that is higher in protein and fats, there will be a shift in her metabolism of these foods and it might cause the fatigue and nauseousness. I know I did the Atkins diet (more extreme than SCD, but causes a similar shift in the metabolism). I experienced slight nausea and fatigue for the first 3-5 days. If you do get die-off symptoms, they usually set in about day 3. Mostly the symptoms are flu-like, but in the case of UC/CD, if you were symptomatic when starting SCD, your die-off symptoms could be worsening of the UC/CD symptoms--like more frequency or more constipation, cramping, wind, etc. Take life easy for a few days, take Epsom Salt baths (2 cups in a warm bath up to your navel) soaking about 10-15 minutes. It will help the body get rid of the toxins and to normalize itself (http://www.epsomsaltcouncil.org/health_benefits.htm). Things usually improve by about day 10 or so if you are experiencing severe die-off. Hang tough! The healing process isn't linear. You will likely take a step forward and two back sometimes, but it is important to hang in there and look for little signs of improvement, not necessarily big signs. The body became ill slowly and it will become healthy slowly too.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19 monthsLDN 3 mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sun, January 31, 2010 10:43:01 PMSubject: Can die-off start the first day?s Hi. My 12y/od CD and I (no condition, just doing SCD for support) just started the diet this morning with eggs and gelatin which went down fine. At about 3 pm we ate the chicken soup and 30 min. later a bite of the DCCC cheesecake with a tsp of yogurt. She told me she felt nauseous after eating both the soup and dccc/yog. Could this be die-off already? I wouldn't expect her to be nauseous from the organic chicken soup with carrot puree). I, too feel a little queasy and a slight stomach ache, but she went right to bed for a nap. I think she is worried she is starting to feel like she used to when she was first diagnosed. (She hasn't had any major symptoms for months - no C,D, or tummy aches, but once in a while she does get nauseous). I should also mention that she stopped taking her meds (38 mg 6 mp) earlier this week (per doctor's orders because her white blood cell count was way down). He wanted her to start again at 25 mg on Friday but we held off hoping that she could start SCD during our little "holiday" from the 6mp and hopefully never go back. I understand it is ok to quit 6mp without dosing down - has anybody done this and did they experience any side effects? Thank you in advance for your help. I don't want this first setback to derail us. Josie, Mom to 12yd CD
