Guest guest
Hi Kim, I have only been doing SCD for 3 weeks. I have IBD but I also have upper GI problems. Severe Acid Reflux/Erosive Gastritis/Esophagitis. I noticed you mentioned you had functional upper GI disorders. I was just wondering what they were and how has the SCD helped you? I still have acid in my esophagus even though I'm on medication (Kapidex) for it. I was just wondering how have you been able to learn symptom management? I would be grateful for your response. Thanks. Terri SCD 3 weeks Possible Early Crohn's Disease Mucous Colitis Erosive Gastritis/Esophagitis Chris This is something I experienced as well, and had to substitute other foods for those recommended by Elaine for our intro. diet. There is also a lot of detoxing going on in the first few weeks on SCD, so you may also be dealing with that as well -- in other words, you may not see an immediate change in your symptoms. The purpose of the intro. diet is to eat foods that are soft and easy-to-digest. After a few days our digestive symptoms generally diminish a bit and we begin to add foods back. But some of us have digestions that can't tolerate the cheesecake, can't tolerate yogurt, can't tolerate carrots, can't tolerate ground meat. Speaking from my experience. So we find other foods that are easiest on our digestions, and stick to them for the 2 to 3 days we're on the intro. diet. There is some trial and error involved in SCD, learning which permitted foods are best for our own bodies, depending on our stage in the healing journey. The suggested foods on pecanbread are just that, suggestions. I didn't use the stage lists when I started SCD, because I knew my digestion wouldn't cope with many of the stage 1 foods. So I just worked at experimenting to figure out what worked for my body. But once I found my core group of foods, I stuck with them for 2 years and restored my gut ecology, improving a lot of health issues. I don't have an IBD, but do have functional upper GI disorders so I can't achieve remission but I have been able to learn symptom management. Which is all I can ask for and thanks to SCD I've achieved it. Kim M. SCD 6 years >>>>>>>> This is my first post. I started the SCD diet a couple of days ago and have noticed my symptoms have actually gotten worse.
