Guest guest
I have been very strict with SCD for over a year now, and careful with the levels, however, can't keep my CRP down. Its now out of control at 120. I am very dependent on prednisone, and flare every time I go off it. I am disappointed that I haven't responded drammatically to SCD. I feel stress plays a fairly large part though.... and I am trying to address that, but its difficult to break habits. My symptoms haven't been that bad, just going to the toilet once a day, however its quite sloppy and I have some pains. But my CRP tells the story I guess. So need to go Imuran (6MP) or one doctor told me about a Humira program. If I am right, I think Humira is taken for a year, then you go back to maintenance medication? I am hoping that may be Pentasa....
Guest guest
Naomi,I applaud you for sticking with the diet for over a year and still feeling like it could be better. Please keep in mind that Elaine was never against medication. She just emphasized that it was, in her mind, a temporary thing to be used to help get one over a really bad flare.I hope that you still continue SCD so that you will reap it's benefit along with the medication. Make sure you get the regular blood tests with 6MP because it can suppress the immune system too much and will need to be stopped if it does. My husband could never get stable on it. Luckily things are starting to improve at a better pace. Still a few set backs, but overall doing much better than he was nearly 2 years ago.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19 monthsLDN 3mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, February 4, 2010 9:46:53 PMSubject: Re: All a waste- Need to go on Imuran(6MP) or try Humira for a year I have been very strict with SCD for over a year now, and careful with the levels, however, can't keep my CRP down. It's entirely possible that if you stay strict SCD while on this medication, it will allow you to get ahead, and heal, and then when you come off the medication, you may be able to progress with just diet.
