Guest guest
Hi , I guess it depends really. I have a splint and am banded (though not tightly). Personally, I would not be comfortable making a speech because it would be very tiring for my jaw muscles (this has the added disadvantage that the more tired my jaw gets the more I seem to slur from the splint), and, well, I'd be embarassed to be mumlbing. As for answering questions in class, I think I could have in my small classes, but not in my larger ones. This is just because I personally find it hard to project my voice very well because I can't open very wide, and also, in my smaller classes, everyone knew I'd had jaw surgery so they were somewhat prepared for my mumbling, and knew they had to pay more attention to understand what I was saying. Speaking definitely got a bit easier for me after two or three weeks - - the hooks have quit rubbing as much now, my jaw gets less tired, and less swelling means that I can move my lips better to form words. I do think that you can tell your teachers in advance and in most cases they will be understanding and helpful. That was my experience at least. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions! - > > > > > > Hi, I am getting surgery sometime this year (at long last), and > I > > was > > > wondering how much time I would probally have to take off > > university? > > > I have read in leafflets that you should take off at least a > week, > > but > > > I was wondering how much time others have taken off, particuarlly > > > after a LeFort 1, and genioplasty?
