Guest guest
I believe you can use hydrocortisone cream for the heat rash, although my son's went away so quickly after taking his band off, that I never used it. It really does get easier. It should help that he has adjusted so easily. Once his body temp adjusts, the heat rash should get better (if not completely go away), and before you know it, the band will become the " norm " for you. You'll hardly notice it. My son wore two bands for almost 8 months and after a certain point, it was weird to see him without it on. Two bands should only happen if they outgrow the band before the head is round enough for your liking. STARBands are good for 6 months, unless he outgrows it sooner, and rarely do babies need a second one. It's more often with DOCBands that only last 4 months, that babies sometimes need more than one. Depending on his severity and growth rate, you should be fine in one. Good luck! I absolutely know that we are doing the right thing & have no regrets moving forward with this therapy, but I am so grieving this loss and don't know how to make it thru 4 possible months. And to hear that some people needed multiple bands terrifies me. Why is this? Guest guest
Hi , If growth is slow, can the STARBand be worn longer than 6 months? Or after 6 months, is a second band always needed? Can a STARBand last say 8 months for an older baby? My son was banded at 12 months and so we do not expect fast growth. I would like to get the most out of the first band. We would need to pay for the second band and our son will be on the old side for a second band. Thanks in advance, Kathy wrote: I believe you can use hydrocortisone cream for the heat rash, although my son's went away so quickly after taking his band off, that I never used it. Guest guest
Hi Geanine, We are in DOC Band/week 3 with our 6 month old son. Things do seem easier in week 3. Like so many others have commented, our little guy seems a little bit naked to us already without his band. There are a few things that are helping me. They're simple and it almost feels silly to pass them along b/c they're so simple. But in an effort to encourage one another, here goes: 1) We're making every effort to be quick with his evening bath so we can use some of those 60 minutes for a band-free bottle/feed during the day. I make the most of those few minutes with lots of snuggles and kisses on the head. It helps me to have that time and hopefully, he likes it, too. We've done well with not having the band off for more than an hour most days -- and we pay close attention to spending those minutes wisely. 2) I'm counting in weeks, not months. That may seem silly, but for some reason, I feel closer to the end of treatment when I speak in terms of weeks. When strangers ask about the band and " he'll be in it for just a few more weeks... " is part of my response, it seems to set them at ease (and I feel more positive, too). 3)When I feel a little blue about what we're missing now in terms of closeness, I think about the progress we've already seen...and I work on the details of the " Round Noggin " party we're going to have when he graduates! Everything will be round.I have fun thinking about all the round food we can serve and how far we can carry the theme. :-) Again, trying to stay positive and keep the focus on the end result. I do hope things get easier for you in the coming days and weeks. Keep us posted. And as you find some things that make the process easier for you, I'd love to hear what they are. Blessings, Jill Cade, 6mo, DOC Band week 3 > > Thanks for everyone's kind words when I found out needed to have a helmet for his plagiocephaly.
