Olsen got his helmet on Thursday and tonight is his first night sleeping in it.

He's actually doing pretty good with it. For some reason, I feel sad about it.

But I know this is no big deal and I should be grateful that he seems to be

getting used to wearing the helmet just fine. I still feel a little weird when I

have to explain it to others, and I slightly feel like I try to justify my

reasoning for doing it.

I haven't really seen any red spots on Olsen's head. Is that cause for concern?

Does that mean the helmet is not really putting any pressure on his head?

I remember that didn't get any red spots for a few weeks. I was worried that the band was too loose, but was told that it was fine. They wanted room for her to grow into it. I think that the STARbands for brachy tend to work this way. I know that hanger is similar, but the DOCbands are usually fitted with less room to grow. So, I guess it depends upon the time of band. As soon as 's head had a growth spurt, we saw the red spots. Does it move around too much?

Hi, my LO (Dan) started with his LOC band today. It also seems very loose. He

hasn;t slept in it yet but I am worried about it moving around. Have you had

any feedback from your supplier about the looseness? Hope all is going well

with your LO

wore a STARband and we did have a piece of padding put in strategically to hold it in place better. I don't know anything about a LOC band, but If it's moving too much, it may be too loose. I would call.

It seems a little loose, but not overly. The orthotist told us it was normal to

be a little loose. Sometimes it rotates a little and seems to push on one ear.

Will that cause his ear to want to stick out more? we go back on Thursday to the

orthotist. So far, Olsen has been taking the helmet really well and has slept

fine in it. He has a hanger helmet.

thanks!

You know, I really don't know about the rotating and what it will cause. The padding that was put in helped a lot with this, but it wasn't put in until after 5 weeks. I really wished that I had pushed the issue more, but I'm not sure whether it really affected things. I believe that it was rotated because the scan that created the helmet showed her as having more assymetry than she really did. It was the second scan and done by a substitute ortho who had to try about 10 times and take the best one. At least the side to side rotating was. It's more usual for brachy helmets to rotate front to back. The original scan was done by a more competent ortho and only took one try.

In the end, I'm not sure that it mattered all that much because the padding did fix the rotating, but I always worried a little about it. She ended with about 1 mm more assymetry than she started with, but she was still within the normal range and I honestly can't see the 2.5 mm that's on the scan. We were really going for improvement in her brachy and we did get that.

I believe that the ears sticking out have to do with the shape of the skull and that a helmet pushing on an ear won't cause it to permanently stick out. Check out all of these things on Thursday to be sure. For example, 's ears on both sides stick out because her skull has little bumps above them due to her head being pushed forward when it got flat.
