Guest guest
I can add my .02... In my dealings with chronic, recurrent Clostridium Difficile (C Diff) infection, S. Boulardii is helpful to crowd out the unwanted bacteria and promote firmer stools. Also is helpful against the D. C.Diff cases are extreme and require additional antibiotic therapy to eradicate it. But in addition to this treatment, clinical studies have patients starting out taking 3g daily and tapering down to a maintenance dose which shows results. The S. Boulardii I take is only 150 mg per, so getting in the 3g daily would require 20 pills a day. I currently take 12 a day on an empty stomach, in between your antifungals if you are including those in your routine. Start out with 1 in the am and one before bed and see if you tolerate it, as far as gas, bloating, etc. It is a non-colonizing yeast and can be taken indefinitely. S. Boulardii is much more common in europe than here. Check out vitacost.com, where they stock scd legal versions which do not contain lactose. Florastor, the " name brand " does contain lactose, and should be avoided, as well as those with FOS, and MOS, and anything else in it that rhymes with that WR up in New England! Guest guest
Thanks Trevor.. I did not realize the lactose in Florastor I have been using.. (http://www.florastor.com/article9fa1.html?id=2164) What is the usual test to diagnose Clostridium Difficile (C Diff) infection ? FYI: I was having a great sucess with SCD even first week with solid BMs but then I accidentaly ate a non SCD yogurt and it instantly gave a D.. Now I am taking s. boulardi 250 mg once a day (which seems to work) and trying to find the right probiotic combination to take me back to days of glory of 3 weeks ago.. Â : ) Any comments would help a lot..
