Legs Swelling from dbb?

I was wondering if you could give me some insight or suggestions

concerning Mason's shoes. He is doing better with the (23 on/1 off)

regimen, however he can only do it for 2-3 days at a time then his legs

and feet begin to swell. We then give him and 8-12 hour break to let

the swelling subside and then go back to 23/1. Is this still part of

his adjustment to the shoes? Do you think we will always have to watch

him for swelling? Is there anything I can do to prevent the swelling?

Do you have any ideas on what might be causing it? etc.

The shoes don't seem to bother him otherwise...no pain, not to tight,

nothing obvious that would result in swelling. I'm kind of at a loss on

what else to do for him other than just keep an eye on his legs and

give him a break when necessary. If you have any suggestions, I'd

appreciate it! Thanks!

My daughter had this also. YOU REALLY NEED TO KEEP THOSE SHOES ON 22-23/7! Or

you WILL expierence relapse. The swelling is, I guess you can say an adjustment.

Dr. Ponseti said this was Ok.When you do surgery, even when minor like the

Tenotomy. you are causing trauma to the area. This does not heal fully inside

and out for atleast 6 months! There are studies on this really! So the swelling

is a cross between unhealed inner tissue irritation, extra skin bunching up

there squished in the shoe. And think about it, you have to get those shoes on

pretty tight. So you can expierence some Edima, and built up pressure flow from

blood flow. I wouldnt worry about it unless it cxauses sores, and pain. You

really need to keep those feets on though!

This is a new one to me. Can you give us an idea of how much swelling and what

part of the leg / foot?

Thank you so much for your response! I had never heard of this before

and was worried that it may be something serious. We try to keep his

shoes on as much as possible, but it's kinda scary when his legs

swell up! Thanks for the info. it is encouraging to know that I

should push him to wear the shoes 23 hours a day as long as he isn't

in pain!
