Guest guest
Hi, You don't need to worry about your kids. My daughters were 1 and 2 at the time of my first surgery and 3 and 4 when I had my most recent surgery. They were never afraid of me even when I had catheters and screws hanging out of my jaw. They just looked at me funny for a minute and then climbed all over me, happy to see Mommy no matter what she looked like. You will need some help though taking care of them for the first week or two, especially the six month old. I was very weak and dizzy the first two weeks so there was no way I could carry them around. I was pretty much limited to cuddling on the couch with them. I also had to very careful with " head butts " . They hurt but with all the screws and plates in they couldn't do much damage. Good luck with your surgery. > Hello, I haven't posted in a while. Guest guest
Yes, let me second that. You're kids will do fine and be thrilled to see you. Our kids were a bit older so we could explain to them what was going on, but they were fine with it. One thing that I did when I came home from the hospital for the first time, since I had huge swelling and black and blue bruises on my face and neck, was to take the facial ice pack wrap that they had given me, and I put that around my face. It worked really good to mask the swelling and the bruising. Then once the kids got a look at me with that on, later I took it off and they got to see everything. Another thing that I think really helped was that I told them I was doing really well and that it didn't hurt much and I tried to spend a few minutes talking to them and acting cheerful, even when I was kinda hurting after getting home. And good luck with your surgery! -Ed > > Hello, I haven't posted in a while. I constantly have the surgery > on > > my mind although I try not to think about it.
