Rose, I am sorry to hear of what you are experiencing right now. I know what an active person you are and how this must make it worse. I hope the dr can help and your pain decreases.

Thinking of you,

Debbie PS Garden is pretty. I wish I had a green thumb!

Like many of you, I've had back problems for years (one of those nurses who didn't use correct body mechanics!). 3 years ago I actually was seriously considering surgery, which I swore I would never do. Then I learned about MBSR (Meditation- Based Stress Reduction), and was able to reduce my pain to a manageable level. About a week ago, the leg pain started up again (the leg pain has always been worse than the back pain for me). Most of my vertebrae are shot, and I've had a spinal fusion in my neck. I started doing my meditation more faithfully, but every day it's gotten worse. I can't think of anything that would have strained my back or triggered this. By Tuesday I could only stand or walk for a couple of minutes, and by Wed. it was hurting from my hip all the way down past my ankle. In the past I could lie down & get

relief, but that's not helping now. Wed. evening I just couldn't stand it any more, couldn't sleep, & I went to the E.R. They gave me some Dilaudin, which basically knocked me out for a couple of hours, then I was back where I started. The only thing that helps at all is ice, so I spent the last two nights with my left leg packed in ice from the hip to the ankle! The pain is equivalent the arm pain from my ruptured cervical disc. Today my neurologist gave me an epidural steroid injection, which has helped slightly--took my pain from a 9 down to a 6-7. I'm hoping it will improved some more in the next day or so. Tomorrow I have about 7 neighbor kids coming for a workshop to make first aid kits for their bikes & have a simple first aid class. I'm looking forward to it; I can lie on the couch & let my daughter & granddaughter do most of it. If this shot doesn't work, I'm going to have to

consider surgery again. I just can't take this, really. I thought the neuropathic pain in my feet was bad--no contest. Well, I'll quit complaining. My front flower garden is going great! Mostly perennials. I have a plant called the balloon flower--the flower buds puff out, then open into star-shaped flowers. I've never seen this plant before, but it's really pretty. My favorite is the silver mound plant. So here is a photo to brighten your day also! Ramblin' RoseModerator
