Guest guest
Hi Kaci, My daughter Maddie had almost the same problem. She was casted a day after she was born. Then, the doctors realized she didn't have the heel prick bloodwork. The nurses drew blood from her arm, like they do with adults, just with a teeny needle. Just a thought. - Michele 5/18/02 and Maddie 9/6/05 bcf jennyandkelly wrote: Welcome, Kaci & ! If your doctor is using the Ponseti method, the casts shouldn't be removed until just before the appointment or at the appointment, because some correction will likely be lost. Hopefully your ortho will have a solution for you where they can either draw the blood, or they can arrange for the appointments to be back-to-back that morning or some other compromise. Make sure that you get the feedback from someone qualified at the ortho office though (someone who is in the know about the Ponseti method) not just a general nurse or assistant! Otherwise, I guess you would have to deal with that slight setback. Which is probably not the end of the world since it's something that needs to be done. If you can talk directly to the ortho, that would probably be the best source to advise you on this since he/she knows how well 's feet have been responding and could give you an idea of how much of a set back it might be to have them uncasted for the night.
