Guest guest
We received our CT Insurance Measurement Reports. They look different from our StarScan reports. The terminologies are somewhat different and the figures are different, too. I am wondering about the accuracy of these measurements. CT's measurements: ISAAC: Cranial width: 135 mm Cranial Length: 147 mm Cephalic Index: 91.9 Circumference: 46 mm Cranial Vault Asymmetry: 9 mm (fzR-OcpL: 131; fzL-OcpR 140) Mid-face Asymmetry: 2 mm Skull-base Asymmetry: 3 mm GARRICK: Cranial width: 132 mm Cranial Length: 147 mm Cephalic Index: 89.8 Circumference: 45.8 mm Cranial Vault Asymmetry: 12 mm (fzR-OcpL: 146; fzL-OcpR 134) Mid-face Asymmetry: 3 mm Skull-base Asymmetry: 3 mm ******************************************** According to their StarScan report: ISAAC: Cephalic Ratio measurement: 0.899 Oblique Diagonal 1: 154.7 Oblique Diagonal 2: 150.1 Cranial Vault Asymmetry Index (CVAI): 3.0 GARRICK: Cephalic Ratio measurement: 0.886 Oblique Diagonal 1: 150.2 Oblique Diagonal 2: 153.9 Cranial Vault Asymmetry Index (CVAI): 2.4 ********************************************* It looks like their plagio is a lot worse with CT's reports. Is it common to have this kind of deviation in terms of measurement? Guest guest
Hi - It's not uncommon to get different measurements from different orthos. I can't speak for the StarScanner specifically (hopefully Molly will chime in with her experiences) but I believe the sensors of the StarScanner are placed in different locations on the head than the calipers at CT. Some measurements are done using the anthropometric locations on the skull, specific landmark areas that were designed for anthropologists to use. And some measurements are done by placing the calipers on the worst part of the plagio (the outer most point of the forehead bulge and the outer most point of the back non-flat side of the head, and vice versa for the flattest areas). It just depends on where they take the measurements from (Here is a link about anthropometric measurements: http://www.plagiocephaly.info/faqs/anthropometry.htm You can see that CT uses the specified anthropometric landmarks Fz and Op (they list it as Ocp on their report). I'm not sure where StarScanner measured them from though. One thing I do see is that CT's cephalic ratio is pretty close to StarScanner's cephalic index, so in that sense they are in sync, given that there is going to be some + or - room for error. Also, I believe there is some difference between CT's cranial vault and StarScanner's cranial vault index, but I'm not sure what it is. Again, hopefully Molly can shed some light there. Not sure if that helps, but there you go.
