Phyllis, My son is Asperger's (does not have language issues to qualify for autism but I believe behaviors are on the same spectrum) and we were on Feingold for a year before going GFCF a few weeks ago. He is 8 and has always had problems controlling himself, gets upset easily, gets " stuck " on certain things, etc., etc., etc. Anyway, just a word of encouragement, the Feingold diet was good practice for implementing GFCF. The hardest part has been getting out the hidden gluten and casein. I don't want to say the diet is working yet, but here are my observations so far. He has only had one temper outburst and that was right after bumping his head real hard and it was very short. We've had to take him off of his adderall due to it having lactose and he's been just a little whiny, but no problems other than that. Overall, we just seem to have more positives than we used to and less negatives. He's been helpful, friendly, etc. I know this isn't a lot of information, but since we just started the diet it's hard to tell. I know for sure that we would not stop the diet based on what we've seen so far.
