Guest guest
Junior: Wow! How did you know the 4th of July was my birthday? How sweet of you to remember, and thank you for your kind words. The Sunday is my celebration run--a pre-marathon run. I'll be running 26 miles! I can't believe it! Thanks for your timing too. Last night, I was at Safeway in San Francisco near my apartment, and some " tourist " saw Dave and me holding hands. This guy said, referring to Dave and me holding hands, " What you're doing is wrong. God is going to punish you. " He doesn't know me, know my relationship to God, but his own prejudice makes him feel that it's OK to say something like that to me and Dave. It made me reflect upon the stories that I've heard my parents tell from the late 50s and early 60s when they were considered a " wrong " coupling because of race (dad is a dark skinned Puerto Rican and mom is blond/blue French-Canadian/German/Scotish). Strangers made comments to them about their " mixed " marriage. I don't know why people just can't live and let live. Unfortunately, racism still exists, and who knows if homophobia will ever be a thing of the past, but love conquers all. And to think that the Government I pay taxes to (and the country I love) wants to legislate my love out of existence. And of course, discrimination based on size and weight is ever-present. OK, I'll get off my soap box. Thanks for your birthday wishes. Francisco > > Happy Birthday Francisco. > > You are so special to us all. Thank you for sharing your personal experiences as well as all the advise given. Thank you for remaining in our group and mentoring us through the process. Thank you for being a true friend. > > And lastly, thank you for your unconditional love for people. I, (living in Germany) can feel your genuine concern and love for us all. > > Sincerely, > Junior > > ps. I am coming back to the USA soon (waiting on an assignment). I am still waiting for my AGR (Military) packet to be approved so I can finish my Army retirement (4 yrs needed). I am ready to come back and face the USA. One of my biggest concerns was being ostracized by society (which has happened while I lived in Texas and land) so I moved to Germany. Europeans don't care about that stuff as much. I feel like I have hidden long enough and am now ready to come back and face my fears. I am still overweight by 30-40 lbs but I feel better about me. I feel stronger and I feel confident. My children are so happy with my progress and even though they love me with all their hearts, I didn't want them to be embarrassed or have to fight for my weight issues. I need to do that. I am so happy to have lost all this weight. I am doing well with food and also with exercising. I needed this surgery. I thank God everyday for this gift. > > > > --------------------------------- > Want to be your own boss? Learn how on Yahoo! Guest guest
Francisco, I have to say the way you put that about your government was a great way of seeing things.. I literally read that and was knodding my head up and down thinking you tell them. I am sorry you experienced someones pure IGNORANCE but know not everyone is like that. Happy Birthday to you, you share the day with my son who turned 10. Kristie ---- manisodream wrote: > Junior: > > Wow! How did you know the 4th of July was my birthday? Guest guest
Francisco, I'm so sorry I missed your birthday! Congratulations! You're a huge inspiration to me, and I really appreciate all the encouragement and love you send to each of us! As for the fellow you ran into in the Safeway, I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I don't understand how anyone can presume to speak for an all-knowing and all-loving God and make such hateful and judgemental statements. . . Cathy C. Guest guest
I so agree with you Cathy. I am a christian and have been all my life. No one, not one of us, is suppose to sit in judgement of another. But it seems that a lot of so-called christians set themselves up as judge and jury. The bible implicitly teaches against anyone but God judging anyone!! This is such a sore spot with me. I happen to have a brother who is gay and I love him so much, and really get angry when someone saying they are christians judges him. They have not walked in his shoes. He is not, nor has he ever led the lifestyle. But even if he had I would still love and respect him because I know his heart. On behalf of christians out there, Francisco, I appologize. I hope you will not stand in judgement of christianity, There are those of us out there who love you despite your lifestyle.Cathy wrote: Francisco, I'm so sorry I missed your birthday! Guest guest
Cathy, Donna, Damaris, and everyone: Thanks! Your words mean more to me than that other person. I always want to believe that someone like that must be having some internal struggle and just has to lash out. You all keep me inspired with your stories of struggle and triumph. We're so lucky to have each other's support. Francisco > > Francisco, > I'm so sorry I missed your birthday! Congratulations! Guest guest
Bruce, let me add my cheers for a celebratory birthday. A little note on meeting a man who knows how to get the most from life. Last night I stopped at a local diner to eat. I was seated next to a man who looked to be in his nineties. I immediately noted the oxygen tank, lines, cannulas and the wheel chair. Then I noticed the very young lady with him. He introduced himself, a retired physician, 80 years old (so much for my abilities to guess age), and that he had COPD. The young lady was his wife. She was 28 years old and they had been married for seven years. They were taking a little trip, going north to spend a few days on the coast. She was his life saver, he said. He didn't know what IPF is and asked me to explain it. Despite his apparent feebleness, he seemed eager and excited to be on this trip, and thanked me heartily for the opportunity to meet me, and asked me to come see him when they returned. So life goes on and this was one determined man, despite his handicaps, was going to get all the juice from it he could. Kinda reminded me of you..
